Is it the economy?

I find it interesting that he keeps claiming he doesn't need the cash, yet trying to justify the high selling price is his main argument....

That's kinda out of line...

Just because he doesn't need the money doesn't mean he's going to let it go for a price that he doesn't think is fair. If he did need the money I'd assume he would have priced it for a quick sale.

I'd sell my rig for the right price, doesn't mean I need the money. Especially when I know that right price would never be met by any sane person. :D

As mentioned, most people won't pay what you are asking for it or what you feel it is worth. Keep in mind that even though it is worth 6K if a buyer won't pay over 4k you might as well plan on keeping it for a few months/years, IF you want to get what you want out of it. Being patient is important when selling for a certain price.

This is a buyer market on EVERYTHING. Even if you have 10K invested in your rig you may not even get 1/2 of that out of it. Unless you are willing to negotiate down to what other are selling theirs for plan on keeping it for a while.

Good Luck Alf :D

My guess is it's a parking issue. I know ALF has a small lot and two crawlers. Some neighborhoods don't like all these offroaders parked all over the place.

x2.

While the economy is obviously effecting some more than others, at the end of the day the retail values of 'toys' and 'luxury items' are going to be impacted far more than others. If this was a bone stock CJ7 capable of serving as a nice daily driver you might have better luck though that isn't the case, you've got a nice built CJ7 on your hands that will require the right guy with cash to take home. I'd be patient, maybe lower your asking price $500 every month, by spring I'd expect interest to really pick up.

It is a nice Jeep and I hope it does find a good home! Good luck.

Yes this is one of the reasons,

Wifes car, my truck, the K5, the CJ, flatbed trailer, quad, quad trailer, and camper there isn't much wiggle room, nothing is in the street and I'm all legal, no one is complaining but more room would be nice. Only bad thing is when the Jeep goes the wife will probably think she can park in the garage:rofl:

Its a nice Jeep, but I have no sympathy for you, I was in Richfield that day and I was suppose to get the Jeep...J/k

Toys are going cheap right now, and most people arent in a position to buy...

I have an 03 chev pickup in mint condition that I cant get half what I think its worth so Im keeping it because I dont need the money, but If I were desperate it would be gone.

Maybe after Obama gets done saving the world things can get back to normal and you can get asking price down the road.

Ive got over $30,000 into a buggy that I likely couldnt sell for 1/3...but I will get my moneys worth in enjoyment...

Also remember its still cold out side. I would think spring or summer would be a better time to sell any open top vehicle.

Something to think about doing, you kind of touched on it earlier. Stick it in storage somewhere and let it sit. Wait it out until you can get what you feel it's worth. The one advantage you have with that Jeep is that it's not going to go down in price, but in the right conditions (time of year, maybe a bit better economy, etc) it will go up in price some. Atleast wait until Spring, you'll get more that time of year than you will in the Winter even in the best conditions.

If you really want to get technical about it take the NADA or KBB value of a given vehicle and use that for a base line for pricing your vehicle and put that on a piece of paper. If you want to get really technical add up the value of the mods on the vehicle on another piece of paper...and throw that piece of paper away. The only people that get away with charging face value for mods are car dealers when they put a lift and tires on a truck and get someone to finance the value away. You can't get away with that as easily on an old vehicle. As has been said before it is hard to finance far above and beyond the book value of the vehicle. If you want to sell that jeep you will have to help a potential buyer understand that they will be able to finance the book value of the jeep and then have to come up with the difference in cash. There was a time when we've all had a good chunk of change in the bank to blow on a toy but those times are behind us for now.

Book value for that is betwen 2500 and 5000. I can't clearly see how pristine and rust free the tub is but I would give you 4-5000 for that rig and not a penny more. If you asked 5 for it I think it would sell rather quick. Take into account you got it for free and you come out on top every time. You aren't going to lose money on the deal so just dump the thing. Selling something you got for free for less than you think it's worth isn't a bad thing. You in essence give back. You give that ride to someone who wants it more than you for a screaming deal and everyone comes out on top. Give back to the 4x4 community and cut someone a screaming deal on that puppy so it can get used and not sit in a garage or storage shed for the next couple of years.

I say wait for someone. IMO you have it up on a wheeler site where most have something already, but ksl is a good spot for someone that doesn't
know about wheeler sites.

Another thought would be pick a car lot local to you that specializes in blingy 4x4's and consign it. Come to a baseline of say 5 grand that you will accept, which will give them the room to put it out there at 5995...

Been a while since I saw it, but I want to say it was cute, with nice specs..

Make some one a nice first car, and odds are there are plenty of Mom's and Dads that drop that kinda scrilla on lil Johnny.

And some of the lots that offer "second chance" financing, not buy here pay here per se, but through B grade lenders like Waukovia, etc. Can probably get a loan written on it with enough down.

Alf,

Be patient. Took almost a year to sell mine. Ended up going to a guy in Georgia that just happen to be vactioning in Moab last May and ran across my ad on KSL. I did get 11,000 for it but I was in no rush to sell or need to sell. It will happen..

Black ZJ, shut your hole sweetheart. You OBVIOUSLY have no clue what the man's situation is.
