Is my ISP ripping me off?

I know there are many smart people on here... smarter than me even.. I have the DSL ISP that's offered by my complex for which I pay $35... it's $30 if you don't mind porn being filtered... but I digress...

I am pretty sure the more bandwidth you use it starts limiting you too. When I try to watch Netflix, about half way through, I get a connection slowed warning and I have to wait like 5 mins for it to re-adjust. When I play Xbox, and signed onto Xbox Live, it always disconnects eventually.

I ran a speed test here and these are the results:

What does this mean performance wise? The only other ISP option open to me is Comcast. Would I get better performance from them with the same investment?

I pay 40 a month for comcast, although the 1st year is cheaper.

Its a little slow on sundays when everyone is home from church, but here is a current test:

Is your connection shared throughout the complex via one DSL connection? If so, you are getting ripped off big time.

I pay $20/month for this. I'd be willing to pay more for something faster and more reliable.

Can someone explain what ping is exactly?

The test I ran this time was wireless N from my laptop but there isn't much difference from my desktop. My Xbox is hardwired (what I watch Netflix on) as is my desktop. The complex internets agreement says they will fire a muzzle on you if you eat up too much bandwdth (I am paraphrasing).

Back in the FLA, the same Xbox showed green bars for Netflix video quality when hooked up to DSL, here, it's never been out of the yellow. I had to kick Comcast out of my FL home in 2005 because after hurricane Wilma hit, power was knocked out of two weeks but Comcast was out for two months.... and they still tried to bill everyone. I switched to Direct TV and DSL and never went back.

I am pretty sure the complex is sharing. Last summer the internets was so brutally slow here that I was going to cancel and just go to the Burger King to use their wireless. Quest tore up the street outside the complex and was doing some cable work and when they were done, the internets was awesome (relatively); next summer it got all facacta again.

From what I see here, it seems that even on a bad day, I can't lose by switching to Comcast and no hurricane outages. Thanks for posting peeps!

Comcast for me too... The only thing I hate is that the rates skyrocket after the promotional period is over and you have to call in and threaten to cancel every 6 months...

Kinda weird that the upload speed is so much higher than down....maybe because lots of people are using the download bandwidth here? :confused:
