Is something wrong with my Lockrite?

I've had this for almost two years. A few months ago, I noticed it clanking a lot more that I remembered. I had just put synthetic gear oil in, and wondered it it was "too" good. I drained the synthetic and put regular gear oil back in. Last trip to Moab, it clanked a lot - even climbing up stuff with power to the wheels. Now, it doesn't feel like it disengages. I drive around corners and my tires chirp bad. I even put it in nuetral and coast around a corner, and it still chirps. There were no "pieces" in the diff when I changed the oil.

This is a D44 rear.

Does this indicate that something is wrong with the locker? Is there a way to tell?

I had a problem with the ring bolts loosening up because i forgot to use locktite on the install. Mine started sounding like you describe, but it quickly moved to loud banging as teeth broke off.

It's wearing out. They tend to do that, especially faster in rear axles.

From my experience the edges on the teeth of gears wear out making it nearly impossible to keep them engaged. All sorts of popping and clanking will ensue, until it finally breaks or just won't engage any more.

lockright problems

sounds like the pins have sheared. They are designed to stay inside the locker if/when they shear. Mine did this and would not unlock, just as yours is doing. Mine was still under warranty so they hooked me up with a new one. Also, be sure that the spacer washers that go between the locker and the carrier are installed, if those tolerances are not correct it will slip and pop like you said. Hope this helps.

my lockrite also did the same thing. It was the pins. I used the open diff since my tires wore off in less than 2 years. Darn DDers.

The springs are fatiqued on mine so it locks up extra easy on me. I would guess since yours is locking easliy that it's not the teeth, you can pick up a pin/spring kit at Mepco for like ten bucks. That should solve some problems for ya.

I just re-read the post and it's definately probably the pins. I thought you said it wasn't engaging.
