You lucky bastard. I used to have one of those...well it was a much cooler 2 door. Perfect condition. But I was broke and sold it. :(

I want another so badly.

I remember that car... it was pretty damn neat.

But, yeah. Steve, you're a dork. Cool car though!

510s are cool... Plans for it?

Right now I'm in research mode. My knowledge of 510's is based on what my Dad has told me about them over the years. He had an Opel GT back in the 70's and used to race against 510's in SCCA Solo II events. Beyond basic specs, I'm a novice.
My thoughts right now are restore the body and interior back to factory and then do some modifications to the drivetrain, suspension ect. What those modifications entail, I don't know. I guess I'm shooting for a 'street sport' theme, it's just a matter of how to get there.

Small old cars are cool!
I use to want a Datsun 510 or VW Notch back, Back in High School
But I have a small convertible that has been a project for far too long.

What is special about these datsuns that makes them "race worthy?"

In their day they were inexpensive and easy to modify. They frequently won their class in Trans-Am and various rallies around the world. They were competitive in SCCA Solo I and II. Have a solid aftermarket and a bit of a cult following.
They were light, with (again for its time) a fairly powerful 4-cylinder. Fully independent suspension and front discs. All pretty novel for the type of vehicle it was. Many consider it 'the' vehicle that changed Americans perception of Japanese cars. Road & Track listed it as one of the top 100 cars of the 20th Century.
