A family friend and a legend in the Dual Sport community died yesterday in a motorcycle accident in Delta, Colorado. His name was Verle Nelson and he was perhaps the most experienced motorcycle rider I have ever known. Everyone please be safe out there!
R.I.P. Verle

"A 72 year old man died in a motorcycle rollover outside of Cedaredge Saturday evening. Verle Nelson of Cedaredge died at Delta County Memorial Hospital from injuries sustained when he lost control of his motorcycle. Nelson was attempting to pass another motorcycle on Trap Club Road when he lost control and skidded off the road sending the bike airborne. The motorcycle rolled nearly two times and ejected the driver. Nelson was taken to the hospital with serious injuries where he was pronounced dead."

I didn't know Verle personally, but I have been on his website many times and hoped to ride with him one day. Seemed like a great guy and a huge loss to the dual sport community.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your family friend Dom. :(

He died doing what he loved, and that is hardcore.. You're not hardcore unless you live hardcore.

I have known Verle since the fall of 1964, our common interests included our both being artists. He introduced me to motorcycles in 1967. Thru him, I got to know Bill Brokaw and Wiltz Wagner (the three of us formed the Rocky Mountain Trials Association).

So much for the introduction.

A better man I have never known. A better bike rider I have never known. I am so sad that he is gone, but he went the way we all want to, doing what we love the most.
