I had signed up on RME a very long time ago. I was living in Las Vegas at the time. I had a Black Jeep Cherokee XJ. i loved that Jeep, but I needed to move on as it was a strain on my family and finances. I, however, still have wheeling in my blood. I currently own a 1999 GMC suburban. Nothing fancy, in fact the opposite.
It has many dents, Vinyl flooring ans seats, scratches, ... well it ain't the prettiest thing on the road. It is an old man too. 240K on the odometer. But I am third owner and it still runs strong for being that old. I have had to rebuild the tranny, and transfer case will need a refresher soon. The motor will get replaced when needed, but I am hoping to get through 2 more years. I have had it out in the woods plenty of times and for a heavy stock rig, it works surprisingly well.
It is a workhorse too. Remember the winds in Centerville a couple months ago. Well I go to use my recovery equipment to pull trees, stumps and debris all over the place. Throw it in 4lo and this thing can pull an amazing amount of weight.
I do plan to modify it more, but I need to get a cheaper mode of daily transport. I get about 15 mpg which is great for an old 454 vortec, but I drive far enough daily to make it expensive (approx $100 every 5 days).
I home-brewed my XJ lift and everything with it and plan to get something on my burb. I really would like to bob the backend a bit, lift with about 4-6 inches run 38s and much more. I already built my roof rack. Not the prettiest but one of the biggest racks you will see on a burb. I have mounted my spare up there which gave room for my hi-lift inside (out of the weather).
More to come, of course, I plan to frequent these boards as I have done on other sites in the past. I have found boards like these are abounding in knowledge, skill and friendliness.
Just a tad more about me:
I moved to Centerville about 3.5 yrs ago. I love it in Utah and have no plans to move back to any heat anywhere.
I am an NRA instructor for Basic rifle, shotgun, and pistol.
I have a family, with four kids. Marriage is shaky and status may or may not change in the near future.
Along with wheeling I am a VW, gun, computer fanatic.
