My buddy is thinking about doing a solid axle swap on his rodeo and we are trying to figure out what front axle to run we are thinking about a toyota front axle and then a waggy 44 both are six lug we just don't know how wide each axle is. Does anyone know how wide the toy and waggy 44 are any help is appreciated

If it were me I'ld either go with toy on both ends or waggy on both ends, they're all the same bolt patern, but you would have matching widths & types, & you could find both axels on one doner vehicle of either make!:)

the waggy axle is 61.5" wide from WMS to WMS, if im not mistaking, and the rear should be like 60" i think. the toyota is like 54", horribly small, aint the right cory?

Waggy passenger side drop is typically 61" wms to wms. Toyota mini front 55.5" wms to wms. Rodeos have the D44 rear but I'm not sure the ratio (4.30?). In my mind... (ready for a poop storm?) the ONLY thing a Toyota axle has going for it over the early waggy axle is the ability to run Longfield axles :ugh: oh and a drop out third member :)

Id go with the toy it most likley will have gears that match your rear but i could be wrong on that, plus a toy with longs is great. You could always do a FJ62 or FJ80 front axle if your looking for width they are about the same as a Waggy

i've seen 3 of these SAS rodeos for sale in a year; may be cheaper to look for one. Otherwise i'd go with waggy for the width. A great swap. If you have the 58' wide isuzu dana 44 rear i'd keep it.

it does have the dana 44 with disc brakes in the rear so he would like to keep that and we have toyota axle laying around so if can use that we would like to how much wider is the WMS on a toyota axle with IFS hubs and such

58.25 wms to wms with IFS hubs according to the Toyota faq on Pirate. I wouldn't go much wider than that due to scrub radius.

I would do the waggy front end.

on a side note, if you end up regearing the rear axle.... I need a set of 4.30 gears for a LP D44. :)

Actually, it is a normal 44, but has odd gears and the studs are a funky metric thread. You can change those. There are 2 widths of the Rodeo 44. Measure yours to see what WMS to WMS width you have and match it to a Waggy 44 front of a similar width. I think the wider one is about 60.5". I have a few friends running the Rodeo 44 in their Jeeps. Nice to have disks and e-brakes.

As for the axle shafts you can get the RCV shafts for the Waggy 44 off the shelf. A very nice upgrade, but plan on spending $1100 or so.

if you go with a waggy front and you have 4.30 rear gears, i might have a set to fit the front if its a low pinion. just have to buy a thick gear case. have to run and check n see if they are still there.
