jeep commando 350V8

hello my name is richard...I have owned a 1972 jeep commando since 1975.since then I have aquired a 66,69,70,73.. I am looking for old timers with commando memory. My 69 jeep commando has a 350 dauntless, factory "Jeep" winch and 60,000 miles..conflicting info has me confused. some say that what was on the factory floor went into the jeeps..anyone know about 350V8's and factory JEEP winches denali

I'm not much of an expert on the older ones but I have been building a 73 Commando for the last couple of years. Mine came with a 304 V8, TH400, and a dana 20 tcase all of which have been replaced. The older late 60s ones I have seen had v6 engines. There are some die hard commando fans on here so I'm sure they can get you all the info you want. Someday soon mine will get back on the road. If you want to see what I am up to look for my Family Commando Project thread.

Earlycj5.com is an awesome resource for this type question. I know there was a Buick 350 that had a angled distributor on the front of the engine.

AMC didn't buy Jeep until 1970 if my memory serves me correctly. Prior to that would be the Dauntless line of engines. The 350 is probably of Buick origin, hense the front distributor. 1971 and up would be AMC (still front distributor), but only with the 304.

The 350's are Buick engines, and quite torquey. Consider rebuilding it if it has issues, those older Jeeps w/Buick power are pretty sweet.

The factory winch, if it's a PTO driven model, is most likely a Ramsey, possible a Braden. Should have some markings somewhere on it. The later electric ones were Warn's 6000lb 8470-style winch.
