also i wonder if many offroaders didn't bother to send in because they don't care about safari anymore, don't go down anymore because of the crowd and the UHP personally i have never been on a official EJS trail ride, not really my thing.

That being said EJS is still a very important event for offroading and moab!

maybe next year you could offer motivation to those who write in? like they could get there EJS book or paper thing earlier then people who didn't comment? or have slightly higher chance/ earlier pick at what trails they would like to run?

The permit action that just took place is a 10 year permit, so unless anything drastic happens with the RMP of that area (legal action is looming), they won't have another comment period for 9.5 years

The permit we are discussing right now did in fact go through the public comment period last year, this thread is simply reporting the finalized numbers from that comment period.

No link?

EJS submits an SRP permit for 10 years of EJS activities. That means they don't have to go through the submission, comment, and approval process on an annual basis. It's very likely their last permit was just a 5 year permit thus if there was permit talk from 2005 (you didn't post a link) that was probably the situation?

sorry i know none of this is that relevant I'm just trying to figure out how it works and how long the comment periods are and how long the permits last and such

2012 5 year permit?

http://www.rme4x4.com/showthread.php?93780-Jeep-Safari-5-Year-Permit-Comment-Period

From Dave's BLM link: "renewal of the Red Rock 4-Wheelers Jeep Safari and Fall Campout 10 Year Special Recreation Permit"

2005 5 year permit
http://greenjeep.proboards.com/inde... months to start a permit, etc. No set rules.

Well as that was after the 2005 EJS I'd suspect that was in fact for years 2006-2011, given how long the permit process takes it could actually have been for the 2007-2012 permits. You would have to ask Dave.

It's going to be different in each scenario, they can extend comment periods, do 1 year permits, require 6 months to start a permit, etc. No set rules.

thanks kurt I understand a little more now. I think what threw me off at first ( that led to me searching and getting more confused) was the time from announced permit comment period to the time of final results.. I'm going to shut up now i'm a little slow thanks again for replying and for all that you do for landuse
