Jeep Soft Top Issues

How does my soft top connect to the windshield other than the 2 big clips? Is there a header or something else I need? I have a 2004 Wrangler Unlimited with a hard and soft top and I tried installing my soft top for the first time today and it just doesn't stay latched at the windshield? Can someone please help me out? Thanks.

Its a pita keep trying my guess is your aren't getting the latches to fully hook inside the lip. try it with the windows out if you have them in. It is always nice when I put mine on to have a helping hand.

It Depends on what brand of top you have. ?? Mine came with a front rail that hooks to the top of the windshield. Then bolts on with the two clips. Then the soft top slides into the front rail sideways. (Bestop). Hope this helps 79j20.

It is a factory softop. And I don't have any plastic door surrounds. Should that come with the top or is it a part of my doors. I have full steel doors.

You should have door surrounds if it is factory. you should take a few pictures of the windshield area and the door surround area with the top in place as best as can be. We can give better feed back based on seeing things.

Sounds like you're missing the door surrounds. They allow your door to seal with the soft top on as well as give the top a place to attach around the door. I've attached 2 pic of the surround. One with it folded at the hinge and the other when it's open. You'll see 2 black hand knobs. These are attached to a bolt which passes down through the bar above the door.

He may or may not be missing these but he should still be able to latch the top down regardless. Does your windshield frame has two holes and your top has two latches? If so try getting someone to help you if you haven't already. mine is pretty new and the top is still very tight and hard to latch. If I don"t pull the top down hard when I try to latch mine the hook pops out.
