I've got a 98 wrangler with a straight six. The gauges intermittently stop working. I did find the battery cables a little loose, and the battery hold down loose. Is there a common ground that I can check, or something else I should look for. I do not know the circumstances when it happens. Also, the oil pressure gauge fluctuates all the time, acts like it isn't holding pressure. Is that an electrical problem or is it more likely an oil pressure issue.
Thanks for any help!

The guages in your 98 are run by your engine control computer. The engine sensors go to the computer first then the computer sends signals to the gauges. I have seen where a loose connection on the back of the instrument cluster will cause the guages to act up.

My 98 does the same thing, pull the gauge cluster and check the connections on the back for corrosion and looseness. There are two main connections on the back, mine were a little corroded and the connections were very loose, I am still trying to figure out how to secure my connections, they only frizz when I hit bumps

It's a work job, and what do I know about Jeeps. I did find the ATF leak though, and I can do a tire rotation like a pro, but I never was very good with the Jeep electronics. You remember how long it took me to figure out my coil problem in my old xj.
I'm sure that you are the only person that has anything remotely nice to say about me at my funereal, so do you want a written invetation or should I put it in my living will? ;)

Was the engine washed recently? My JET doesnt hold a very good seal against my computer and allows water to get in and do funky with the truck. I would say if yes it was pull all 3 connections off the cpu and ether them to dry em out, add some electric grease and retry.

I pulled the guage cluster and checked the connectors. some of the pins were corroded and they were definately loose. I cleaned the pins and put in some electric grease and put some foam behind the plugs to sescure them better. I never was able to duplicate the complaint myself, so I hope that this does the trick. Thanks for all the help!

I think it is going to do it again in a while, you probably should have spliced in new connectors........at least that is what I had to do.
