Jeep without a title?

I'm wanting to buy a Grand Wagoneer from a guy that can't get the title. A friend of his left it on his property over a year ago, and now he wants it gone and can't find his friend to get the title. Problem is that it was last registered in Arizona, so the state won't issue a salvage title. Is there anything that can be done about it? If I were to buy the jeep without a title, is there any way I could get rid of the jeep when I'm done parting it out? I called a scrap yard, they won't take it without a title, and I think I'm safe to assume that no yard will take it either. What are my options? Can I just cut the thing up and haul it piece by piece to the dump? Any help would be appreciated.

two options, once you're done with it, leave it on the side of the road...the current registered owner will get a notice about it, it could get traced back to you though eventually and no matter if it got traced back to you or not I'd suggest against this idea :D or the second option is just as you said, cut it up to small enough, non-distiguishable pieces and take it to the dump (or put it in your trash can). You could get it trouble for either one though, but you;re a lot less liekly to get caught doing the second :p

we have scrapped vehicles without titles a couple of times. we just cut it up small and mixed it in with a load of other scrap. the first time the guy at the scrap yard could tell it was a scout II but didnt say anything about the title.

I would walk away from the deal unless it is free.

yep, or go through the proper channels. You can go through the DMV, they will notify the registered owner and give him xx number of days, if they hear nothing it legally becomes yours.

Why walk away? In case it's a 'hot' jeep? I really doubt it is, the guy lives in a podunk town in the middle of nowhere. But I've also been known to be too trusting...

A towing company could help you. They deal with this kind of problem all the time.

I asked the one guy I talked to, he said he didn't know what I could do. Maybe I'll try some other companies.

Thanks for the help so far. I emailed the guy selling it and told him what was up. He wants to get it off his property, so he's trying to track down the previous owner. If anyone has any more advice, post up!

You will find that it is more work than it is worth trying to get ride of a stripped jeep with no title.

Like I said, unless it is free. I personally have scrapped 5 wagoneers and have never paid for one. Fortunatlly for me, they all had titles.

They'd have to impound it. Mail the registered owner (certified) within 10 days of pickup, and then the registered owner has 60 (90?) days to make arrangements to pick up their property or it becomes titled in the name of the impound co. (There may be some variation on that, as I've not been in the business for quite a few years now, but it's probably similar if not the same.)

More work than it's worth for a parts rig..........

I would haver to agree that the big question is are the potential legal hassles worth the parts you want. When I was toying with the idea of a FSJ there were plenty of parts vehicles around that would come with far less head aches.
