i am thinking of buying one of these to put under my xj. are they good or bad? any one have one?

An inch or two too wide, which would not be a big deal. The big problem I see is the wheel bolt pattern. Unless you buy a matching front end, you are screwed and even then you have a pattern that is going to make wheels hard to find untill more are available.

I hate to say it because I really don't think much of the wheel bearing design but to me an 8.8 makes alot more sense.

Why the JK model? Get the 06 and earlier model, and you'll get the right bolt pattern and width. I've had no issues with my 44 but I agree, you could build a kickass 8.8 for a lot less.

go with the 8.8. i just put one in my tj. it is awesome. it has 31 spline chromo shafts, is a little narrower than stock jeep with, same bolt pattern, and it has disk brakes. you can't go wrong with one. sure you have to adapt it in, but six states can weld on all the brackets you need and modify your driveline to fit the flange on the pinion. i don't know if he still does have it, but Badcop had one for sale on here a while ago for like $300. contact him. it is worth it.

An 8.8 would be much easier, since you're looking to swap into an XJ with leafs. No reason to buy an axle setup for links & coils, like that JK axle or a TJ axle.

That is a pricey axle, and in my opinion a complete waste of money. If I were going to be spending that much I would go with a 1-ton axle.

I have an 8.8 too and am a big fan. Easy install into the rear of an XJ (helped my bro do one on his) and if you are looking for the 4.10 gears, some of the 8.8's came from the factory with them.

I agree with everyone about the 8.8. I've had mine for about 2 and a half years and it has been trouble free. I bought mine with 4.10's from a Junkyard for around $300.00. Some people bring up the c-clip design as being weak but I haven't seen/heard of any c-clips breaking. If thats an issue you can get a Super 88 kit for around $500.00 which eliminates the c-clips and also brings the width back to what the front axle is.

I think Superior makes a super 8.8 kit that is made for a Jeep swap. It also makes increases the width a little to match the stocker.

If I could ever find the time to put the XJ d44 thats in my garage back together that would be way easier since its a bolt in.
