Getting involved with moral issues always leaves the person open to the "High Horse" idea no matter what side they take.

When this issue comes to the ballot, and I know it will, vote for it if you agree and don't if you disagree. Thats the only way to make your opinion powerful in politics, back it with your vote.

Offering and Respecting the opinions of others is part of why the United States of America was founded in the first place.

If we cant rehabilitate them...then why let them out of prison? Why do we not then just kill them? Our system is supposed to rehabilitate these criminals. Our system is designed with the intent to fix these people. We should fix the system instead of branding these people with a scarlette letter...did you idiots never read that book in high school?? Puritanical bullshiat is what that is.

I am not argueing to give these people a BREAK.

I have no pity for social degenerates that cannot control their malfunctions.

I want fairness and equity for all in america no matter how delusional it may be, it is not fair and just to make someone pay for a crime after they have done their time.

Whoever had the buddy that pissed inbetween the cars...who hasn't done that, and you think it would be fair to have a tracking device planted on your person to make sure you aren't pissing inbetween a fence and a house if you have to, hell I piss in public on occasion, when you have to go and the restrooms are all closed, you gotta go!! Maybe I should have a tracking device and my picture published on the internet...well I already have my pictures strewn across various boards...

You people are just like those whackos in the puritan times...you think you are all so high and mighty where your sins are not so politically unacceptible...Who out there has cheated on their wives....you should have your pictures published and tracking devices installed...ooooohhh wait it is socially acceptible to do so, so you dont have to worry about it!

Earth to the RME clan....STEP DOWN FROM THE HIGH HORSE!!!

Step back from the more righteous than thou attitude. Are you from BYU? If you haven't been through it, you can't understand. Trust me; the kids will never be OVER IT. By the way, I read the Scarlet Letter, Diary of Anne Frank, 1984 and a bunch of other symbolistic crap in High School, so what?

You obviously didn't own up on the reading comprehension on my post....or from those books!

Obviously you learned nothing from history, you can't punish someone above and beyond what is constitutional and right. If you stole a CD would you expect to be tagged with a tracking device that will alert Stores that a convicted CD thief is in the vicinity? It is called cruel and unusual. I know the sex offender crap has been to the Supreme court, but this tracking device crap is wayyyy out of bounds. It is called a knee-jerk reaction. Politicians jockying for public eye by sensationalizing a situation.

You just cant stick Lo-Jack on anyone that does something wrong...this is where it is headed. Society needs to fix their people and turn em loose or keep em locked up.

If you can't fix a sex offender, dont put em on the streets, thats it!! Don't tell em thanks for serving your time now wear this trackin bracelet so anyone in the vicinity can track you and know where you are at all time...its horseshiat and infringing on someones right against cruel and unusual punishment.

I am not saying it is right or that child predators should be treated nicely but you have to understand that this does not fix the problem, it just throws money and technology at it.

Imagine you are a sex predator...and you have an ankle bracelet with GPS on it...and you want to go pick up a kid. How does this device prevent that? Thats right, it doesn't. Now when it is found out that the kid is missing, the cops can "Reel In" all the animals with tracking collars and check their alibies. But who is to say that the cops are speedy enough to catch the offender. How do they stop the offender from raping and killing the kid in time it takes the cops to get to the offenders house? How does it solve the problem of sex offenders? Answer me that one people?

How does publishing names, pictures, and address, and cars...and all that crap stop a person from WANTING to rape a child? How does it keep your children safe?

Thats right, it is bullcrap and does almost nothing to FIX THE OFFENDER!!!

Go to the source, rehabilitate the criminals, dont be misguided by thinking tracking systems and SO databases will somehow "Shame" an offender into not wanting to rape your children....

You people are sorely misguided.

You are a complete moron if you think you can rehabilitate these degenerates. We should, at the very least remove everything resembling genitalia on these pieces of **** (I vote for painful death myself). I hate to say it, but I hope you have kids some day. (And no, I am not saying I hope they get harmed, because no kid deserves that, but maybe you'll feel more compassion for the poor kids, instead of the rights of some piece of **** who took the rights from an innocent child)Here’s some rehab for you. Plenty more where that came from.

they are not stealing cd's!
but if the law said - If you steal a cd you go to jail and upon release you are tracked, so walmart would not let you steal cd's, then that's the law and you should know that's whats going to happen before you steal.
cruel and unuseal punnishment? please.

ANYWAYS! Thanks for all the opinions.
buy the stickers there cheap, give them to everyone you know.
If the law makes it known we wont tolorate it, maybe it's a detorrent to these A holes.
If we just slap there hands and tell them it's not there fault, put them in jail for 18 months, they will not stop. :mad2:

Using en extreme emotion to rationalize and justify construction of punishment, and then place it in effect lacks justice.

I've heard no one speak on adressing Child on Child abuse, In utah this accounts for more than HALF of sex offenders. How do you think an adult child-abuser is made? I've never heard of a case where the adult developes sexually abusive behaviour out of the blue. This is the real problem, and it cannot be solved with life in jail, anklets, or death. Controling the known adults is one thing, but it in NO way resolves the real problem.

I agree...
but if you are going to post criminal id's online why not all felons why only sex offenders. I believe it to be more fair if all felony convictions were online.

Felony convictions are online, you just have to know where to look.
Usually your county website has a search engine which will allow you to see all criminal convictions (not just felonies) in your county (including what they were charged with).

Anyone think their attitude would change if it was their kid that was involved?
I'd be pushing for chemical castration and 5-10 minutes of private time with the sick if someone touched one of my kids.
But cruel and unusual punishment for tracking devices . . . Depends on how big the device is. If it is small, concealable, and comfortable then I don't think it would be considered 'cruel and unusual' by any court.
The thing you must realize is that part of rehabilitation is ensuring that the crime is not committed again.
There are times when criminals are not permitted to do things a normal citizen may.
For example, a felon may not own a gun or vote.
Someone convicted of defrauding others may not have a 'job of confidence.' This usually means jobs where you are trusted with others information (financial advisor, bank employee, etc . . .).

Usually criminals are prohibited from doing things for a reason: to help them stay reformed, and prevent them from easy access to things which might promote stupid actions.

When dealing with these freaks, keeping them away from kids would be considered a part of their rehabilitation. It isn't a red A, it is keeping the alcoholic out of the bar.
You are making sure that child molesters are kept far away from children. But you are also allowing parents to keep their children away from these people (because parents are legally responsible for their kids, and children are not thought to be able to make logical decisions for themselves . . .), and letting the police know if they are getting themselves into a situation where they might get into trouble.
The next question is: why does their information have to be public knowledge? At first, information about child molesters was only distributed to those with a 'need to know,' mainly parents. However, journalists, ACLU, and other organizations sued police organizations for 'unfairly distributing public materials.' The courts held that if the information about the molesters was to be distributed at all, it had to be distributed to the public. This is why the websites popped up.

Final point: It is not unreasonable to require convicted criminals to check in. It happens all the time (some people are never off parole, and if you are on parole you MUST check in and give your parole officer an account of what you have been doing . . . to make sure that you aren't getting into trouble again) and has been deemed as constitutional. And yes, sometimes the terms of parole involve tracking devices to ensure that you are obeying your parole conditions (ask Martha Stewart).

The joinder of tracking devices and public notification is nothing new, nor is it 'cruel or unusual punishment.' It's been around for years, just not this public.

Where's the justice for the victim? Do you think they had a say in the situation? Also, Do you think a child has the same thinking as an adult? how can you classify them in the same situation? Maybe the adult doesn’t act upon his sexually abusive behavior until later in life? Why should they have rights after destroying a child’s life?

Even death of the abuser brings no justice to the victim.... Do you really think that seeing the person that did that to them die or be traced makes them all better?

blah blah blah ...

I could care less about the constitutional rights of one of these sicko-pervs. It is the victim rights that I am concerned about. We can not do anything more than what the law allows, so we need to change the law. Again I understand, the penalty cannot be made retro-active, but make sure the max punishment is in effect from this point forward. Just like with the Hacking case. Mark Hacking cannot receive a new punishment, but if the Lauri Hacking law is passed, any time a spouse kills, they will get 25 to life not 5 to life.

Do not tell me that these perverts tracking devices are cruel and unusual. What they do to a child is cruel and unusual, plus down right disgusting.

Child molestation doesn't just come out of nowhere. Have you guys actually done any research on the cause of it? Most sex offenders have been victims themselves. It's a horrible circle. However, locking them up and throwing away the key, or tracking devices, or simply killing the people found guily doesn't solve the ultimate problem.

Like we've been discussing in my criminal justice class, ciminal justice is an institution of social control, but it is the last resort. What we should be dealing with is the morals of society. What goes into making these people do what they do before they become sex offenders.

Have any of you actually known a sex offender or a sexual abuse victim? I have. And I know it's not as simple as you are all making it seem.

It's not justification, It's looking at the actual problem. You want to stop people like this from coming into existance you look at common traits in their life that would effect the way they see sexuality and how they form attractions....

Not everyone is raised with sights set on societies intrinsic moral charector. I'm in no way justifying what they do as ok, The atrocities commited are among the most digusting and wrong known to man. I however chose to try and find understanding in the scenario. Through understanding you can see where minds like theirs are developed and progress a resolution that WORKS. You want to stop the 'ammunition' of sex offence from hitting children, you go after the factory that turns it out. Put away sex offenders, do what is nescessary on a case by case basis. Sure we need things to be a little stronger on that end, but don't let that blind you to the other side of the problem.

as stated I am more for victims rights than the offenders rights. I would like to know if there is a child sex offender in my neighborhood even if they have been rehabilitated. Would you like to have a rehabilitated mass murderer living next to you without knowing? It does screw up the kids whole life when something like this happens but to a child predator it's just another day in the life of his lifestyle.

Would YOU feel comfortable raising your kids in a neighborhood full of rehabilitated child sex offenders... if you do... peace be with you and your kids. I think it is down right wreckless parenting and I would have to say it is your responsibility to protect your kids from all potential dangers. Keep me away from them. I understand we need to be aware of the degree of the crime, for instance the guy releiving himself between cars should be a lesser charge than the guy who raped a 8 year old boy/girl, let him wear the tracking device. The other guy should recieve the minimum sentance.

With that said... keep all priests away from my house too. ;) :p
