Any experience with aftermarket JK axles for the D44 axles?

My father in law has bent one, and is now thinking he wants a larger lift and larger tires. Now is the time to upgrade to something aftermarket. Any suggestions on is avalible and any recomendations?

It depends on how large of tire he is wanting to go with. If you are thinking about larger than a 35" tires I would suggest upgrading to D60?

If you have are going to stay with a D44. You might look at steel sleeves, gussets on the front end, and chromoly axle shafts. This would help and give extra strength.

I swapped up front a ProRock 44, RCV axles, and Reid knuckles on my JK. I run 37s with no worry. I had my jeep 4 feet in the air the other weekend and the axle is great. I run a the stock 44 in the rear.

Unless he is going to 40's I would just either do a prorock or sleeve/gusset the front.

When I was at Tera, we used quite a few sets of Superior replacement chromoly shafts with good success. Prices aren't horrible either.

I have installed both superiors and rcv's. Both are good. I like the rcv's for the front and superiors for the rear. If the axle that is bent is a front, I wouldn't sleeve it. IF you can get the sleeves into it, most likely the axle shafts will rub on the sleeve when you turn. It SUCKS to hog the sleeves out after they are in. Been down that road a bunch of times, thats why tera checks the front end alignment before they are installed. Let me know if you have any questions.

Make sure he gets the axle upgrade kits with the heavy sleeve and weld on trusses. Those are a must with large tires.

what do you mean by bent one?

I belive he's talking about the housing/tubes being bent.

I agree about RCV's CV shafts in the front. A bit more costly but they have a "you break they replace it" warranty/guaranty with no questions asked. Good piece of mind there knowing you will never have to buy another front axle shaft.
