Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

So how do you answer this one? :hickey:

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I would and have said that life is my adventure and if I knew why my life had in store for me in five years then what would be the fun of living it?! :D

I have never had anyone turn me away for a good job with that response.
But you HAVE to say it in the most complete honesty.
To play it safe and secure I would go with what rockdog had to say. He has a better answer anyways.

My bro was applying for a job with Northrop-Grommin for a mech. engineer position (designing software) and was asked that question. I can't remember what he said exactly, but it's what he didn't say that got him the job - he didn't say he wanted to be in management. The people that hired him said the two other applicants both said they wanted to be in management. It was the feeling of the board that engineers don't make good managers and managers don't make good engineers.

depending on the job they may be looking for something that shows you are motivated and moving on rather than "stagnant".

Let's see here...

Hopefully I'll be working as a nurse at some fabulous hospital somewhere and getting pretty close to finishing my masters in nursing... or...

I could be living at home by myself as a lonely  nurse with the sweetest jeep ever and 27 cats to keep me company! :D ;)

don't tell them that you're really an over achiever and that you're going for a guiness world record.....the man fired from more jobs than anyone else in the entire world. In five years you hope to have that accomplished, and getting this job will help you obtain this lifelong goal. :p

I was being interviewed by 4 guys at the same time, they would go around the room and take turns asking questions. The branch manager asked me where I see myself in 5 years and I said sitting in your seat then the president said how about 10 years and I said I will be in yours by then.

This was a bold statement to say, but I hired people for 10 years and the ones that could see themselves with our company in 5 or ten years where hired. I never hired the ones that where in college to pursue another field of work and just wanted us to fund their education.

I did get the job with a 15k pay raise from what I was currently making.

Be bold, step out of your comfort zone if need be, you have to sell yourself to them.
