The past couple years, there has been a big trend in companies just consolidating higher pay positions. And because of that, it certainly has been a much tighter job market for those higher six figure incomes. A little over a year ago I lost my position at the company I was with solely based on my geographical location. While I was a top performer they made a decision to cut one manager role per territory and in the west with the three of us located in Denver, Salt Lake, and Seattle they felt it was best to remove the smallest populated area. Fortunately, my performance was well known to all the competition and it was not an issue replacing my job, but nobody was able to pay what I was making so I did have to take a pretty-significant pay cut.

That said even with the pay, I’m incredibly happy with the place on that. My work life balance is levels better my daily stress has gone down significantly. Ironically enough a week ago today, my former company called to make me an offer to come back and it would’ve meant probably a $60 or $70 K year pay raise from where I’m currently at but it was a pretty easy decision to turn it down.

So I guess I’m just saying that I think the job market still has lots of potential but it’s probably going to be difficult to replace her entire wage in this market. Not impossible but it might take some time to find the right position.

I think it’s definitely worth the money to hire professional résumé writer. And I think the best way to not waste your time is to reach out to multiple recruiters with your résumé experience and pay scale and let them do the work for you finding opportunities that fit your needs. You don’t pay the recruiters the hiring company does. So when they come across good candidates, they will go to work to get you hired so they can get paid.

That would probably be the sensible thing to do. When I finished my last Mechanical Engineering project 13 years ago my wife asked me to stay home and take care of the laundry, dinner, dishes, cleaning the house, etc and she would work. She didn't have to twist my arm too hard. It seems to work for us and she likes not having to worry about any of the chores. When she finishes work I just focus on taking care of her needs. I have thought about taking a part time job at Ace Hardware or somewhere like that to help pay for my Jeep stuff but right now I do volunteer work doing vision screenings at schools and I'd probably have to stop doing that. We'll see how quickly she finds something.
Word. I’m so excited to retire so I can travel with the wife everywhere. I’m sure the calculus would change if she offered for me to be a kept man. I’d take that deal all day.

These are great ideas I'll pass on to her. Thanks!

She's had a couple of recruiters contact her through linked in but hasn't really figured out that stuff. Would love to have the contact information.

Likely easiest for me to recommend her to him through LinkedIn? Does she have a profile and can be a contact of mine? You aren't either for some reason. (I thought we were).

Yes, she has a profile. It is under Janet Medsker. Mine is under Jon Medsker. I didn't see you under mine either. She said she will finish up putting her resume in today so by tomorrow it should be up to date and I just sent her Charles' information.

Thanks for all of this help. I love the camaraderie among all of us. It makes me happy

My Brother-in-Law lost his job with Layton Construction last week. He was working as a supervisor doing office glass installation on new construction (or some such stuff). He's a good guy and is the breadwinner for his family with two little kids, so shitty time to lose your job.

If anyone knows of construction gigs, or general laborer type stuff that's what he's been doing since I've known him. He's expressed interest in learning how to do heavy equipment operation as well but doesn't have any experience.
