Johnson Valley info

So I bought the new KOH dvd now I got the idea in my head that I want to go out to CA and give it a try. I'm mostly looking for peoples general knowlege and experience because I really don't know much about it. What's the best time of year? On pirate it looks like the winter months but if I'm driving that far and camping in a tent I'd like to have decent weather. Are the trails hard to find? Anyway I'm mostly wondering if it's worth the trip or if I should hold off and run the rubicon later. I'm running a buggy on 37's any input would be great, thanks

During KOH in Febuary it's great during the day but pretty chilly at night. I've only been to a few of the trails and they weren't to hard to find. I'm sure there is a map floating around out there some where for KOH but I'm not sure.

You're all set.

I've done JV twice now. Both times with my XJ. The one thing I can emphasize is you will get VERY DIRTY.

I have actually thought of staying in either Hesperia/Victorville or Yucca Valley. The comfort of a hotel/shower would make JV more enjoyable.

Oh and one other thing, did I say you'll get VERY DIRTY?

There is absolutely no escaping it.

Other then that, go and meet up with a group, kind of like meeting at City Market in Moab, and tag along on whatever trails they're running.

Been there many times and it's a blast. I think you can find maps online. Chances are you would be able to find a few of the trails on your own, just following tracks toward the mountains from Means Dry Lake bed. I've camped and it's not bad, but DIRTY. Also, the winds can get fierce out there. Closest and best place to hotel is Yucca Valley. Do some searches, even on KOH from past years. The courses have hit most of the runs out there.

Thanks for the info guys. How is KOH as a spectaor event? Fun to watch or is it so spread out it's not that great? Is it accessable by car or do you need a 4x4?
