So Thursday I spent the afternoon getting everything ready on the Jeep to take it in for emissions and safety on Friday, got that taken care of and was on my way home when this happened....17 year old girl in a Suburban turned into the side of the Jeep, if she was half a second slower she would have caved in the door.

hope she had insurance...

She did and they are taking care of me, but the poor girl was crying her eyes out the entire time and she was cited for the accident, I just hope she thinks twice next time she uses poor judgement while driving a freaking tank. Although I doubt she will be driving for awhile given her shocked state. I have a question, in Utah if you are issued a moving violation before the age of 18, do they take your license until you turn 18?

Bumper held up nicely.

The bumper and sliders took the brunt of the impact and saved my bacon, this is why I mentioned if she was half a second or so slower it would have caved in my door. Looks like it will just need the fender, headlight, and header panel as far as body parts. The radiator support was unaffected so that was a huge relief. Just suck because the body was almost perfect before the accident.

That sucks and in a really busy intersection in Bountiful. What did it do to the front axle?

Sadly, that busy intersection only yielded one driver that was willing to stop and give their statement. As for the axle, I haven't crawled under it and looked closely, but the lower long arm mount on the driver's side body end ripped off and the ball joints popped loose a bit. If the axle housing is bent I will either swap in another or have an hp44 built up.

That sucks. Even worse is the insurance company will want to total it a d you won't be able to replace it for the money

I'm going to find pricing for all the parts on the Jeep and ask them to add half that value to the worth of the Jeep, as this is about what parts are worth if I were to sell the vehicle not wrecked with the parts on it. The salvage title doesn't matter a whole lot to me because I'm planning to keep the Jeep until it falls apart, so hopefully they will subtract the salvage value of the Jeep from it's total worth with the parts and cut me a check for the difference.

No.

And this sucks I know the feeling, I had a 16 year old female turn left in front of me, so close I didn't even have time to brake (45mph). T boned the mini van and made a U out of it around my nice paid off tow rig, which was no longer nice and totaled, got screwed by the insurance.

I'm cruising ksl and might call on a few clean ZJ's I found on there and swap parts over, depends on what the insurance folks come up with.

Suburbans ARE tanks. I did quite a number sliding into Greg's Dodge a few years back... :D I left with a slightly bent bumper, he left with.. well, a nice insurance settlement.

Glad you're ok, that's what insurance is for. :D

I'm so glad that it was only your ZJ that got hurt. In August, I was T-boned while riding my motorcycle home from work. The guy was a tourist and was too busy looking at his GPS instead of watching traffic. Came out of a Turn Only lane and ran right into me. He was cited and there were plenty of witnesses. But the guy was driving a rental. My ins. company took care of me on the bike.

I'm still trying to figure out the medical end of the deal though. I have one more surgery in December, than hopefully, I will be back on the road to recovery! :)

Man, that sucks. Did it bend the frame? Oh, wait.... But seriously, with a unibody is there more damage when a fender gets hit like that? Does it tweak the unibody?

Sorry, I shouldn't kid. That was a clean zj. I had my favorite Tacoma in a wreck. They should have totalled it but instead they tries to fix it and after $10,000 it still didn't drive right. I sure hope she wasn't texting.

Glad to hear everyone is OK.

i just recently went through this same situation, got rear ended by a kid in a ranger.
i have a tube bumper with cnc plasma cut plates in it, and its welded to the frame. i got a quote from a local 4x4 shop to cut it off, and replace it and paint it for a little over $1700. the ins company told me they were gonna total out my 4runner cause it was only worth 2k, so i sent them $5500 in reciets for parts ive added to it in the last 6 yrs. they only count parts that are less than 1 yr old. but it did still work out for me cause with some of my reciets, the value went up to around 3k and after my buy back price, they gave me about $2250. so thats what u have to look forward too, and nothing on my title changed, but on a carfax report it will show a salvage. good luck.

We bought back a van that had been "totaled" and the insurance said it was old enough ('99) that it didn't matter, and the weren't going to change the title.

I had some kid in a dodge ram hit my 99 xj. He was texting. insurance totaled it and I bought it back and they didn't brand the title. There was no physical damage to the jeep other than a dent in the driver's door. I kicked the dent out and it was fine..... and then I rolled it a few months later... lol

From my understanding if a car gets totalled and you buy it back it doesnt change the status of the title. I have done it on a few cars and never ended up with a salvage title.
