Kind of a girly question, but...

... what do you guys use to get the grease and gunk out of you clothes after some good wrenching. I've heard of throwing in a can of Coke in the washing machine, but wouldn't it be noisy and mess up the agitator? I'm just kidding, but I have heard that Coke does remove grease. I also thought I heard to try using dish washer detergent, that's what I use to wash my hands and does good getting off the grease. If so, how much, and with normal laundry detergent or instead of?

Other suggestions besides buying an all vinyl suit? Or maybe just some coveralls for me!!

I just have several pairs of shorts and t-shirts I use strictly for garage duty. If I'm in a pair of shorts or a t-shirt that's not dedicated to the garage and I have to work on something then they usually just get added to the garage collection. In other words, I gave up trying to get stains and stuff out. One thing I found to work pretty good is a Fels-Napa(sp?) bar. You can get them at just about any grocery store usually with the laundry detergent for just a few bucks.

just put a squirt of dawn in the washer and throw the laundry in with your regular soap, works pretty good, won't necessarily take it all out but does pretty good.

I made a special work shirt from a long sleeve poly/cotton wearguard shirt I got from Aramark. I put some IH patches on it (I know, I'm a dork), and it is dark gray. I wash it in a mixture of tide, borax, and crest-o-mint degreaser. It comes clean everytime. For pants, I use old slacks and khakis. They never really come clean, but washing them in the same concoction gets them wearable again.

Oh, and I'll add that I've tried oxyclean as well. It works, but not as good as the triple-combo detergent I mentioned above.

Yup. I have a dedicated "jeep" pile. Unfortunately, the more times things break when I'm not at home or on a trail, that pile grows bigger and my decent shirts pile gets smaller. :mad:

That's my problem. I think, "this won't get me dirty." somehow it always does :(

I just put a scoop of hand cleaner in the wash with my cloths and usaully the grease comes out.

Just scrub the grease with hand cleaner I use fast orange. It takes most of it out.

Well, since I am a girl and a bit of a "girly" one at that, here's my answer. First of all, if you are so much as looking at your rig you will end up with grease on you. It is a fact of life. Yellowbronco does have specific clothes for wrenching which is always the best route to take, but accidents happen. I use Wink stain remover and it will take out pretty much anything Chris can find to ruin his clothes with. The trick with stain remover is to squirt it on said stain, rub it in with your fingernail, let it sit for 15-20 minutes and then wash it in warm water. DO NOT dry it in the dryer until you're sure the stain is out as the heat will set the stain. For the ugly stains, sometimes multiple treatments are required.
