This is the easiest I could find quickly, but I know I've seen more in various photo galleries from comps. http://www.dirtsportsmag.com/dirtsp...Bulloch/ArticleStandard/Article/detail/474482

Wow! Thanks for the link Carl... that thing is amazing! Sub-3000#'s too! I'm sure the 9" axles helped there... and the aluminum LS2. I thought the manual transmission was an interesting choice, as well as sticking with 37's. I guess he's going for the smaller-buggy in hope it fits between the cones better. I'd love to see Dean driving that thing.

I think that depends on your perspective Greg, I wouldn't be surprised if this on is a little bit bigger than the sami he was driving. Dean is a great driver, I have seen him go up stuff that I didn't think could be climbed, VERY SLOWLY!
I hope he does well.

I guess the point I was getting at was that he's running parts smaller (and lighter) than most other competitors to get the new buggy close to his old Samurai's weight. Front & rear Ford 9's really seemed to help there. Also it seems that most guys are now running 39's rather than the 37's Dean has. I know it's easy enough to change tires before a Comp, so that's not a reliable factor. IIRC, didn't his Samurai buggy have 60's?

I'd like to see him do well also, he is a helluva driver.

I'd like Dean to win I didn't know he was in it. He was way cool at the first comp at St George with his blue Samurai. Even with the comp going on he stopped to say hi , and answered some questions about his rig. I always wanted to copy his blue samurai with mine.

So is Aaron Clough the only Utahn that's going to be in the race? Apparently he has loaned his rear engine Moon buggy to 'Pistol' Pete Sohren for the race and Aaron will be co-driving with Pete.

Aaron's rig is scarey fast. I saw him run it at Salt Lake and Colorado Springs last year...

Pete should have a good handle on the speed and I bet aaron can get him through the rocks. :D

Go Rebel Racing... ;)

I love Dean's new rig. It would be perfect with an auto. : )

Hey Jinx, how come Clay isn't down there???? If possible, could you please let me know your upcoming schedule? Thanks man.

Greg,
This rig was built to compete in the crawls, we -rock, pro-rock, etc hence the 37's, two seats, 4 spd atlas, etc. not the racing, but it is more than capable.

I think the 9's are a new venture that has to do with getting the 60* steering...

Dean mentioned that he can touch his stinger to a wall, turn hard with cutting breaks and never hit the wall with a tire... pretty cool stuff.

as good as it looks in those photos, it looks better in person... They introduced it in Pamona, and had it at the PSC booth at SEMA.

I will be starting a thread of the finishing of Clays new buggy soon, I need to get around to it.

With that being said, we are not there because the new rig isn't finished yet... :(

But is it going to be awesome when it is done, we just moved the chasis and axles to the place where they are going to do the engine and such.

basic list of specs include
turnkey 6.0 ls2
turbo 350
atlas II
trailreadys
40" toyos
psc full hydro steering and brakes
Mastercraft seats
Tera crd 60s
detroits
fox air shocks
yukon gears and axles
:D

it was pretty much my wish list. :D

and like I said, I will start a thread shortly will all the details.

I want to see how Aaron and Pistol Pete did! He's a local, after all. :D

Last I heard they were hauling a$$ and then caught on fire. They extinguished that but haven't heard if they've finished or not. They are not in the top 5.

1. Shannon
2. Casey Currie
3. Rick Mooneyham
4. Doug Bigelow (Maxxis sponsored)
5. Brett Porter (F Toy)

Other finishers listed
Mustard Dog? Dave
Drew Burroughs
Nicole Johnson
JR Reynolds (from Pirates)
Pirate4x4.com sponsored JR Reynolds was leading this race early on and charged through the rocks before breaking his front steering and drove through the courses in only rear steer. He later broke an upper link and had a flat tire, but JR pushed to the finish and completed this race. JR was assisted by Jason Bunch, an accomplished national rockcrawer, with the welding and repair of his rig.

Other news car 612 (Drew Goldie) burned but driver and passenger okay. Going back to get the car later.

Wow, that looks like it was an impressive race! Sadly I spent the day driving (I'm not too far from Death Valley actually ) so I just caught the results and the video clips on Pirate. In one of the videos they show Shannon come out of the rocks into a sandy wash and he speeds off down the wash! His Moon buggy sure seems to handle high speeds pretty well. Very cool, it's neat too see rockcrawlers move like that. I loved the light bar with 3 lights on the top of the Moon Buggy... who would have thought?

Did you guys see the video of Dean, where the bumps up that sandy hill & gets the front-end off the ground?! Bitchen!!

I think that race has some serious potential. I could see people building rock race rigs for high speeds & long distances. Mixing the two worlds of Baja Racing & Rock Crawling...
