Tacoma production plants...

Fremont, California, USA (1995-2010, no longer in use for tacoma)
Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico
San Antonio, Texas, USA
Hamura, Japan

I believe all US sold Tacomas Came from US plants. not 100% sure if all are made here or not. But I do know that the Camry is 100% "American" made. I am interested now and want to see the numbers lol, I'll look at work tomorrow...

Tacoma is a North American market vehicle only so I'm pretty confident 100% of finished trucks come from the US. The Baja plant produces the composite beds on the gen 2 Tacoma's.

Jason, I never wrote Toyotas aren't designed or built here and that no one else builds cars anywhere other than their head quarters in fact I wrote exactly opposite. It's too bad you can't make someone read tone or intenation on the interwebs :)

The point I was trying to make is: in the small truck market, the Tacoma isn't significantly better than it's competition but it is significantly higher priced, and that a salvage title 10 year old car with a bunch of miles isn't worth what the dude is asking. The end. Lol

Without making this a pissing match, I'm curious as to what US spec light trucks would you put up against the 1st generation Tacoma?

I've seen some awesome Nissan and Ford products available overseas that rank right up there, and of course the world market HiLux is rock solid, however with the exception of the Frontier here in the US, what offerings are there that have the stock reliability, aftermarket support and longevity proven by the Tacoma here in the states? I don't want to hear about your dad's cousin's neighbors Dakota that has 400k on the original setup, I want to hear about bulks of owners that are out using them in the wilds with reliable results, like you hear about the Tacoma. I've seen some really sweet truck builds of any make and model but proportionally speaking the majority of built light trucks you see are Toyotas, coincidence? Hardly.

Kurt, read my earlier post, and didn't even specify only US made light trucks, and I specifically stated that it was my personal opinion that given a fixed budget of $8.2k: I'd rather buy a lesser priced truck and either use the left over money to modify it to my liking or keep some money in my pocket. I based my opinion on kbb values on all 4 trucks I listed of the same year, mileage and similar options. Just my opinion no more, no less.

Any of these trucks make a good base for building a street legal prerunner/ exploration vehicle, which I think is a cool build idea.

IMO Taco's are WAY over priced. That's why I will continue to drive American. My tow rig didn't even cost that much... and everything about it is better.

Looks to me like you're a hardcore 'Buy American Built' type to me.. Because, after all, American built is better in every way. So does it feel good knowing that Toyota trucks are more American than most "American" trucks?

If its not obvious already, buying "American" would include Toyota in the lineup to me.

Nice ninja edit Kurt ;) no pissing match needed. Just my own personal opinion.

Jason, I think you've got me pegged wrong haha, I've had half a dozen "non american vehicles." I obviously inadvertantly struck a cord, I didn't mean to get you worked up, sorry.

You just cant have a conversation like this with toyota guys for some reason they are all so defensive.....Maybe cause deep down inside they know Jeeps are better.....:cody:

Actually, it's the other way around. This thread took a turn when someone tried to say that domestics rule and, toyotas suck. It wasn't a toyota vs domestic thing until gravesdigger made it one.

The toyota guys were talking about tacomas, then someone came in and stated that their rig was "better". Of course we're defensive in a thread talking about toyotas, just like if I entered a jeep conversation stating the negatives to a jeep, the jeep guys would be defensive.

I understand that gravesdigger didn't mean to stir the pot and that he was misunderstood, but you can definitely see why the toyota guys felt they had to defend themselves.

By the way, I used to be this guy:
Toyotas are cool everything else sucks ...... Gosh I cant believe we all dont already know this.....
As of the last year, I've tried really hard not to push the whole "toyota vs jeep thing". I will personally always pick a toyota over a jeep, and I'm all about expressing my opinions about toyotas since I've had a few, but I really try not to compare them to jeeps. I think it's cool that others will always pick a jeep over a toyota, no problems there. A toyota is best for me, a jeep is best for you. Great. Pissing matches about which is "better" are pointless, which is why I do my best not to start them.

It's like other Jeep owners being offended by how much cooler my Jeep was mostly due to it's Italian motor.... mostly.

Remind me, does Jeep have a US market light truck that is applicable to this conversation? ;)

I didn't say Jeeps suck, Toyota's rule. I said there is a specific reason Tacoma's hold their value compared to similar model light trucks to which Jeep doesn't have. Keep the apples to apples.

Fwiw it was a non-Toyota guy that started on the defensive, at least represent the situation as it is.

...Don't quote me wrong: I said a single 10 year old, overpriced, salvage title Tacoma sucks hahaha

I'll quote you correctly...

"The point I was trying to make is: in the small truck market, the Tacoma isn't significantly better than it's competition but it is significantly higher priced, and that a salvage title 10 year old car with a bunch of miles isn't worth what the dude is asking"

While one half of your comment was based on the salvage rig, the first half was a broad representation no? ;)

You tell me, considering the newest Commanche is 3 years older than the earliest Tacoma I really don't see much to compare on. The OP is looking for Tacoma's, not Commanche's lol. Book value doesn't apply much to 20 year old vehicles.
