La Sal portion of Kokopelli, pre-run report

I run a tight ship... wreck
Admin
I wanted to verify that Hideout road up thru the La Sals was clear for an upcoming Kokopelli Trail trip. Made a quick run this morning down Hwy 128, then turned up Onion Creek. Once at the top of Onion Creek, I turned up the Hideout Road and onto North Beaver Mesa.

The road was in good shape for the most part. Someone had driven it recently when it was much wetter and left some ruts, but nothing too bad. The road washed out last Fall and that had been fixed recently. There were 2 puddles of standing water that I splashed thru, but that was really it.

The road was wet in a handful of areas and there was some standing snow at the top of North Beaver Mesa, but it didn't slow progress much. The worst of the snow was near the pavement, at the foothills of the La Sal mountains.

The Landcruiser got a bit muddy, but it wasn't that bad. I hate cleaning mud off! I drove back down to Castle Valley, aired up the tires and called it a day. That was enough info for me to know that the trail should be runable in the near future.

I noticed one of my Checker HID lights wasn't working, hopefully it's a connection issue & not a burned out light. I also found a wallet in the snow at the highest point, belongs to a guy from Denver. I'm going to call him & get it back to him, it has lots of important stuff in it.

Jealous of your jaunt in the hills! Wish I could join for the main event!

It was a fun, quick trip. I was haulin' ass where I could. Left home after 9 AM and was back on Hwy 128 by 12:30, headed home.

I hate mud too. Lucky you found the guys wallet, good karma to you for returning it.

Yeah, I called him and he couldn't believe I found it, he was so relieved. He was just up there on Sunday and he knew right about where it fell out. They were riding motorcycles up there and they looked for a long time with no luck. I stopped to take a picture and walked ahead of the Toyota a ways... on my way back I saw a wallet and though my wallet had fallen out of my pocket! It wasn't mine... :D

I just got back from shipping it, FedEx'd it overnight to him... he paid the shipping. ;)
