I'm curious about the Diesel that was in the Disco. Whats the story on it, good bad?
Thanks

The diesels that came in teh disco 1 would be either a 200 TDI or 300 TDI I believe. The 200 I have read has some issues with headgasket failure at higher mileage, however I have also heard that they are SUPER easy to replace and the motor is very reliable. The 300 TDI is supposedly a super strong motor and can be tuned to well over 400 ft-lbs when turbo'd properly.

As Krazzle said the big issue is that Rover never federalized the diesel engines in the US, so smog inspection is a big issue.

Word from the UK and everywhere else in the world is that if you want the performance Rover (those two words dont fit...) you get the V8, and if you want the best diesel engine in an SUV in the world (yeah yeah, Mercedes, BMW....) you get the Land Rover diesel engines.

Ah heck, I'll give my $.02 as well. We had a 2003 Disco II. this was the nicest vehicle I have ever owned. It was two weeks old when it got off roaded for the first time, at two months it had a lift and bigger tires, at six months it had true tracks and 4.11 gears. I loved to wheel in this. It went anywhere you dared point a $45K vehicle. We loved taking it our in the blazing heat, you could run the ac all day while rock crawling and it never ever got warm.

Now for my speech on the durability of these vehicles. Our car was in a multiple roll over, sideways and end over end. The car held up better that I could have ever imagined. My wife and 10 month old were in it and walked away with some bruises, that's all.

As for reliability, it went in for one thing other than scheduled maintenance. They had to re-flash the cruise control for better shift points. It never had a lick of trouble.

As far as car dealers go, we have never had nor probably ever will again had as good of service from sale to maintenance as we received from Land Rover Centerville. They are by far the best place to deal with.

That is all...
