Thanks for the links, I have become a fan of LED in about every other application. The flash lights are awesome, I am even going to use LED lamps(instead of fluorescent ) to light my new shop... I guess I will try some and see. I think I can gamble on $9 fog lamp bulbs to start. I will post back with the results..

Don't waste your time. You'd need at least 15 watts of LED to equal the ~1200 lumens from a 55 watt halogen.
Also, the housings won't focus those led's properly anyway (if at all)... so even if it was bright enough it would suck since the light wouldn't really go where you need it.

I'm assembling a final prototype boost driver for the 100 watt led (shown in the link a couple posts above) that allows you to power one from 12 volts. Should be good for making an offroad driving light or camping light or whatever. These LEDS would also be excellent for shop lighting if you can find a mains driver for them.
