Totally Awesome
I just bought this old 1987 Layton Celebrity. Its a 38' 5th wheel. I have no idea what it weighs. But the truck pulled it pretty well from North Ogden to my House in Layton yesterday.

I bought this trailer last Aug. It weighs 3600lbs fully loaded. My LJ has a 3500 tow capacity... I put a brake controller in my LJ to run the brakes.
I pulled up parleys last year at 50 MPH in 4th gear and still had some pedal to go but when I went faster then 50 the temps started going up!

We're on week 2 of a 5 month tour in ours. Currently in Atlanta, the ol' duramax pulled the 2k miles without complaining (at 9mpg).

2011 2500 Duramax, 2005 Jayco Eagle Bunkhouse. Did some renovation on the interior to make it less camper and more livable.

We did the carpet and laminate wood in ours it made a huge difference. We also took the Rv furniture/mattress out and put residential stuff in way more comfortable. But it looks nothing like that benjy that looks awesome.

Benefits of owning a crawler: all future projects will seem super easy and cheap. Seriously, we redid the entire interior in a maybe a month, just working on it 3-4 evenings/week. We did IKEA couch and table to replace the foldout bed and dinette. Way more useful.

Great thread and something I've been thinking about a lot lately. I have been using my dad's truck and camper to pull my Jeep to EJS and the events at Sand Hollow. It's better than a tent but my wife pretty much refuses to go camping at all in this and after a couple of days it get a bit claustrophobic. I've been contemplating an upgrade but am having a tough time coming up with the perfect solution. Any thoughts are appreciated.
Current set up:

New options.
Get a full size camper for my truck. Plus, my wife likes the bathrooms better. Neg, it's still small and gets old after a couple of days.

Get a 24' to 26' 5th wheel and then pull my Jeep on a trailer behind it. Plus, it gives me the room I want. Neg, It's a bit of a hassle to set up and pull doubles. I used to drive a belly dump pulling a pup so the pulling doubles doesn't bother me.

Get a toy hauler that would fit my Jeep, 82" tall, 85" wide. Plus, it gives me lots of room. Neg, it's big and heavy and finding one with a 16' separate garage that can accommodate 4300 lbs is tough. Not sure how my 02 DMax would handle it. It does have air bags.

Get a motorhome that could pull my Jeep on a trailer and eventually pull it in an enclosed. Plus, plenty of room. Neg, Separate vehicle to license, maintain, and store.

Sell my truck, buy a flat bed dually to haul my Jeep and pull a tongue pull trailer behind. Plus, easy to load and set up, and cheaper to buy. Neg, would need a different daily driver.

I keep going back and forth on these options. Hmmm, maybe I should set up a separate thread for this.
