Line locks

I think it has to be mechanical not hydraulic

The reason for a Cable Parking/Emergency Brake for the state inspection is that you need a secondary way to slow and stop your vehicle if you lose brake pressure. A mechanical brake relies on you to apply it and has no other form of enhancements.
Line locks, if im not mistaken, are plummed into your brake lines(usually front for drag racing) and are held by a sileniod with an electrical current. That defeats the mechanical purpose of an emergency brake. You cant apply Line Locks if you dont have brake pressure in the line first. Which rules out useing it to stop you in an emergency when you have no brakes. \

Most newer cars, (mid 70's and newer) have gone to a dual resivore brake master cylender to eleminate losing total brake failure in most occasions. You have 2 seperate lines that leave your master cylender and then head to either your front axel or rear axel.
Sorry for the spelling errors, its after 11pm and I am tired.

Yep, I’ve seen in the movies several times where ones brakes are tampered with to defeat them and kill someone. Other than that, sorry, in 34 years of driving I have never had hydraulic brake failure, nor witnessed or heard about anybody else having catastrophic hydraulic brake failure.

I can’t speak for the electronic solenoid lockers, but the first time I saw true mico line lockers was on large tractors (think real big wheels/tires) and construction equipment … used for what? Yes you got it, parking/emergency brakes.

When I’m on some obstacle and want to get out and look, I’ll mash that darn hydraulic brake like I’m trying to push it to China, and line lock it long before I’ll trust that mechanical e-brake.

The last 30+ years have had the better brake system is why. Go back and drive an old Willy's or CJ2 with stock brakes, and tell me which you want to drive again - it or your Cummins. They also only had one reservoir. Meaning that if you had a hydraulic failure, pumping the brakes a couple of times would empty it and leave you complete brakeless. So yeah, 40 years ago I could see this as a problem, and would expect an E Brake law. Now, where today's breaks have redundancy built into them, it's more of a parking brake than anything. ..It's not worth much more than that. When was the last time you, or saw someone, drive off with their parking/e brake engaged.

I completely agree, though.... I'll leave my rig in gear and get out and look way before I'll rely on the parking brake...

If the Master Cylinder fails then all Hydrolic braking is lost. That is supposedly what happened to the Blazer that went off of the side of Lions Back that has been on TV. Caddy Calipers are not designed to hold large tires so they will not work like the original parking brake. I bought my 1st set of 78 Caddy Calipers and 77 rotors from NAPA but the Piston was out of the cylinder when I got them so I returned them. Most places do not sell the caliper w/ the Parking Brake arm so I just got mine from TSM w/ arm's for $300. You do see them in junkyards from time to time. Here's pics of mine.

On anything smaller than a 3/4 ton or 1 ton truck, all the time. But on 3/4 ton and 1 ton trucks you will not be going anywhere with the ebrake on. My Cummins will not move, a 1 ton Chevy I have with granny low 4 speed and a 454 will NOT move with the ebrake on.

Actually even on the smaller stuff (with drum on the back) generally the reason the ebrake won't hold is because the shoe's aren't adjusted up.
