okay a quick look at white box's www does not offer much in terms of a forum for support, and from what I can see in the how to looks like WB utilizes rpm files
so might be safe to say you could use red hat commands to get things working.

I have not used redhat in 5 years so I forget the commands.
I have been using Ubuntu exclusively on my laptop since middle of December and there is an enormous support forum in place for it, but it is debian based and the commands vary slightly...

Wayne, if its any interest at all I have some Ubuntu cds you are welcome to, it comes with two cds, one's a live cd you can boot from and the other is the install cd...shoot me a PM and I'll drop one in the mail for you.

 this is almost comical :p

so, the two things we have established in this thread are A) There's LOTS of ways to get sudo ;) and B) Everyone has their choice of Text Editors (if you want to try other some off the top of my head are vi, vim, nano, joe, emacs, and kate...vi is probably the only one you'll find on just about every distro but it is also the most difficult to use, but I'd say it's also the most usefull once you learn it as well, next to vim :) ).
There's more than VI? I guess you learn something new everyday. :hickey:

The name sounds familiar but that's about all I remember. The company was probably half the size when you were there as when I was.

I was there when the company only had 50 employees and had not officially taken on the Linux Networx name one hundred percent...

They was primarily called Linux Networx, but all the finicials were Alta Technology.

I think I have my web server up and running, thanks to Koby.... http://66.166.43.94

See how it works and if you find bugs let me know! :D You can also log in, make an account, 'buy' stuff, etc. Anything you do on it will eventually be erased when I move my website over, so don't be afraid to break it. Any purchases made won't be billed to your credit card and no product will be shipped. If you checkout using Paypal, you will be charged, but make a note in the checkout notes that it was a test and not an actual purchase, and I'll reverse 100% of your payment. Also, let me know if you have any speed issues...

It is! Mandriva 2006, again, thanks to Koby for 'helping' me set it up ;) (and killing my router):p

If you go to http://66.166.43.94, that is the server I'm hosting. If you go to http://www.alljeep.com, that is the live site that is still being hosted.

From my side, it's much faster, but I know that could simply be because it's kind of local. When I access it from my house, my request goes to Denver and then loops back and opens the page (according to traceroute). Someone else that has like 20-30 hops may notice a different speed.
