Little Moab

 Has anyone seen what is going on out to little moab? When you are approaching the first rocks on the main road, there are some small ledges that people use for a small part of their rock crawling forays. We were out there today, monday the 23rd of august, and there is a rock crusher and a loader and a trackhoe out there, digging up that whole area of rock..I dont know who owns that property, but it worries me that they are starting to dig up the area. If anyone knows if it is BLM or state property or private, please respond and let me know. Those of you who know and use the little moab area might just find this as disturbing as I do. I am going to find out as much as I can and see if this is just a small inconveniance or if it is going to be a larger problem. Any and all imput would be much appriciated. THANKS Mark Haveron

Seen that about 2 weeks ago when we went out there and had seen that they had just started to demolish that area. There was no loaders or rock crushers in site any where hope they dont take to much a way out there:(

SITLA & BLM. BLM actively permits quarry and rock gathering permits on small and grand scales and SITLA also allows various uses on their property. There very well could be some small chunks of private property in the area, I'd have to dig out a map.

Looks like a commercial operation, I'm sure a call to the BLM would tell you what the situation is. On the flip side if it is private property it could alarm the property owners into posting their land.

I wouldn't mind trying to organize some sort of fund to buy little moab or at the very least the main rock pile, (if its even possible) it would be cool to set up something like area bfe but on a smaller scale, although I have no idea how possible that would be. I've always though it would be cool to turn it into a protected ohv area

You may be able to approach blm and adopt the area with a club. Blm keeps it public, and the adoption maintains and keeps it clean.

that would be a great idea. Ive always thought I would like to have enough property to open an OHV park, but alas I was born poor. Might be a good idea to see if we could do something to preserve the Little Moab area. It would be nice to know our kids and grandkids would have a place to go crawlin.
