LJ lift on YJ

Any thoughts on installing a rubicon express long arm upgrade for a lj on to a yj? I bought the kit and then a few guys want to buy my LJ. I haven't sold it yet but if I do can I install this kit on my YJ. Obviously the control arms will work and I know I will have to add coils or coilovers and things like that. Will the skid that comes in the kit work or not a chance? Also, I got new front upper control arms which don't come in the kit. Any thoughts would be great.

I ran this kit on my LJ. Nothing really bad to say about RE, in fact it really was a nice set up. But, those rear arms are freakin LONG! They're long, low, and drag a bunch. Not to mention you'll have to stretch your wheelbase a ton.

On a YJ you will have to do a ton of fab work to make it fit. If it were me, I'd just sell it and use the funds to do the YJ later.

It isn't that bad of a job considering the kit was never meant for a YJ... The frames on TJs and YJs are very similar, and as long as you are up to some fab work and making coilovers work (Coils are tough to fit on a YJ frame unless you make the Jeep really, really tall...) then you have got a fun project ahead of you! Only issue would be deciding if you want to stretch the wheelbase of the YJ, or shorten the rear arms on the kit.

I say do it!:)

That kit will act all sorts of crazy with airshocks or coilovers.

Sell the kit for some extra $$ for performing upgrades to the YJ. Offset XJ rear leafs with external shackes are a good start to a YJ stretch project.

his YJ already has some stretch to it.. (4" rear axle moved iirc) nah it won't be bad to hook up that kit on your YJ.. did you ever get it to pass safety?

Ya my yj is already stretched 9 inches so I'm sitting at about 102 or so. Right now I have 37s on it with a 30 front and a 8.8 rear. When I got it the corners were semi comp cut but I dont want those so I'm going to get some stretched corners for it. I just want to get away from the leafs and have some more flex. The ride isn't that bad surprisingly. Chance, I never got it registered or tried to pass safety. I finally put some rear fender flares on it tonight and it looks a ot better than it did. I just need to get a new exhaust manifold and it will pass.

sounds like you're off to a good start:cool:

that could be a problem.

there are some on here that have built some flexy rigs using leafs

CJ/YJs axle upgrades are too easy. I'd be all over that instead of reverse engineering that RE kit onto a YJ.

I know it sounds like a problem with those axles but I just can't seem to find the right axles to throw under there right now. I don't want to go full width cause then to be street legal I have to either have huge flares or run some expensive rims that pull my tires in. Do you know of any axles I could throw in there right now and stay legal or what's my best option?

I've run full width Chev D60 front with stock Dodge Ram wheels. Definitely cheap and I'm thinking it was about 80" sidewall/sidewall with 37" Creepy Crawlers.

I'm about 81-82" with H2 wheels and 40" MTRs.
