LJ steering upgrade?

I dislike that style steering, although it is an improvement compared to the stock-type steering. Tera tie rod ends are good, but will not fit your stock tubing. (thread size is a lot larger on theirs) If you change much of anything, you will be redoing your panhard mounts to keep it driving nicely.

I did WJ knuckles and brakes on my TJ, mostly for the steering upgrade--but it also gets you a nice brake upgrade as well, if you go that route.

I run the currie setup on mine. Tierod, drag link just like stock. Its performed great for me. Carls route is definitely better than what I run.

My father-in-law has a tj with a 2 inch spacer lift. and his tie rods should be replaced so I have been looking out for upgrades.

He wants to avoid un-reversible mods...

the Currie looks good, this one says 0-6 inches of lift, I believe the currie says 2-6 inches.

both are pricey!

I run the ruff stuff, not the y-link, since I have a hi-steer arm and it is beefy. some of the TRE are special order, you can get them at ruff stuff, or parts mike or maybe even quadratech, but not at a parts store so keep that in mind. (they are OEM like but a couple are not quite OEM)

Steering on TJ/LJ's is the dumbest design Chrysler ever concocted. I've got the Currie and it works but it stills gets tons of bump input. Plus as mentioned tie rod ends are spendy and harder to come by. I've looked at the WJ upgrade and the teraflex high steer but both are in the $500-1000 range. I'm just not hating the inverted Y enough to drop that much yet

I don't think you're wrong on your price estimate for the WJ conversion (at the lower end of your range) but it does do a whole lot more than the Currie replacement does, for a similar price. (Isn't the Currie setup $500+ also?)

If you want to meet up sometime and drive my TJ, you can decide for yourself how well the steering and brakes work compared to yours. :)

Do you have any pictures of your WJ setup or a writeup?

The biggest issues stopping me has been moving the track bar but, I'm running 35's with the stock track bar mount on the axle and it is getting a little slop so maybe it's time to pull the trigger and fix both issues. My Currie TRE's are also getting some slop so that money would reduce the cost of the WJ conversion too.

Pictures....writeup....HAHAHAHAHAHA

I'm second only to Skippy in my terribleness with taking pics and doing any writeups. I'll try to take a couple blurry pictures later today and detail what I did right, and what I did wrong that would be corrected on Try #2.

No kidding! I have heard rumor about some 35" tires and some new wheels on your TJ. Guess I'll just have to come by to see for my self.

Be having the same decision to make one of these days. Running Currie now and no real complaint but the money to refresh it might be better spent on the WJ mod.

Sorry for the thread hijack. Those look good Carl. Nice job matching your windshield frame. Are those copper SSTs? I might have to come by anyways for some lathe work.
