Local Cut and Re-Spline?

Called a few of the names/numbers from previous posts. They seem to either be out of business, out of state (shipping) or need 3+ hours ($300) due to setup.

Is there an SLC local machine shop that's setup for this? Need 4" lopped off a D44 and re-splined.

Thanks.

We are learning alot about shafts in a hurry. Resplining most oem shafts are weaker. They can be case hardened rather than thru hardened. So when you premachine spline major you might already be out of the hardning depth or part of the minor dia is soft.

Even starting with a prehard 4140 or 4340 bar has its draw backs.

But hey it works. Everyone is doing it and we are doing it with cutters. Non involute procedure.

Get it done right would be hobbing or rolling splines then heat treat.

Branik Motorsports will recut shafts for you. One week turn around rate.

The do all our custom 14B front shafts

That was what I ran into and ended up ordering a new custom chromoly shaft rather than cutting down an OEM shaft that I had. I don't remember the exact $ but it worked out to only costing about $50 more to get a chromoly rather than re-spline an OEM.

I still have a OEM d60 shaft that I would like to get cut down if it were cheap enough. If you find a local place so don't have to pay shipping that would start to make it worth it.

Let us know if you find a place that will do it cost effectively.

Thanks

Thanks guys. I will have to weigh out the cost/benefit once i have the cost. Since i have not priced out new any recommendations on where to buy? Not buying upgrades at this point. Just trying to get this going.

The Dutchman web site claims they do it for $55. You have to get the shaft to Boise though.

I just dropped a D60 front axle off at Dutchman for a cut and respline. Like the web site claims, it's only $55. I'll be down in Moab 2nd half of EJS then again 1st week in May. Potentially, I could transport an axle(s) up and and back for someone.
