locker and spool in the snow

I haven’t had a chance to drive my xj in the snow yet, and I am just dying to find out how it will handle with the front lockright and the rear mini spool. It may be a while till I am able to take it out and see how it does. So I was wondering if you guys could tell me about your experiences that you have had with a front and rear locker setup, or even just what afront locker is like in the snow.

on SNOW its fawkin awsome...its like front and rear locker, suburu, eat your heart out, you have nothing on us....ice. now thats a differeent story, you REALLY REALLY have to watch out on your acceleration or it will cause you to go sideways.

slick stuff is fun but you really do need to be carefull on the gas......i can't start out up a slight hill covered in snow because of my mini spool....i just sit and spin cause there's no way it'll find traction...the spool is a ton of fun though....i can go anywhere in 3 wheel drive!!! :D ....i think the pro's outweigh the con's in the snow with my spool...just gotta be really careful.....espesially when there is alot of cars/people around, cause the back can slide out at any moment....which is why i just pop it into 3 high when i don't wanna kill someone :)

I wish sometimes I had the luxery of being able to shift in to 4high or low without getting out to lock my hubs. And if I leave em locked I get nasty vibrations from my home extended front d-shaft and the not so perfect pinion angle.

BTW I had a welded front diff in my old toy and trying to turn at all on any surface especially snow was literally impossible unless the front hubs were unlocked.

I have a spool in the rear and it does well but I tend to have difficulties turning, since the rear now has no differentiation the wheels like to track straight. therefore pushing the front end forward even with the wheels turned until one side breaks loose then it turns ok but I have to be carefull....this only happens in sharp turns

i have experienced no "pros" while driving in snow with locked front/rear. its like the same effect that i can acheive by slamming on the brakes. it locks up all four, and slides. with out an open differential the tires fight each other for traction, and just bust loose. i recommend a selectable locker if you plan to wheel in the snow alot.

front ez locker craped out on me in upper Michigan had to drive home 8 hours in the snow(I know it wasnt the smartest thing i have done but it was like 5 degs and i did not want to pull a shaft!!) fine in a straight line bad turning, also sucks when it did work properly and one wheel would slide in snow and engage the locker to the wheel on pavement.... scarry just have to remember its there!!!
