Looking for a cheapish vehicle

Been searching KSL and having zero luck.

We have been having car problems like crazy. Wifes 07 Mazda has a bad motor in it. My 03 powerstroke either has a bad injector or a bad piston.

The truck is still sort of running. I want to pull the valve cover and see whats going on but I need to pull my little work trailer SO thats why Im looking for something. As soon as I have my work situation covered I can tear into the truck.

IDEALLY I think I would like a ZJ. Something that can pull the trailer fine for work but be able to use as a expedition type rig on the weekend. But a XJ or possibly the right 4runner would work.

Im not looking for a project and no junk please. I have enough junk already :p

I have a budget of 3000 but I would prefer to stay around 2000.

What do you have???

just about anything with 4x4 that can tow would be suitable. An old chevy pickup maybe? 350 v8, auto trans, single/extended/double cab to suit your needs. Andrew's Ford IDI 4-door does awesome on the trips he takes it on.

Ive been looking at about everything. I was thinking a half ton truck for awhile.

But I changed my mind. I already have a full size truck so there is no sense in having 2. Plus parking is very limited at my house. The smaller the rig the better. I would even consider a Liberty or Escape but they arent very cheap yet.

I am mostly likely going to keep whatever I buy for a long long time. Just to have a 3rd backup/loaner rig. So hopefully I can find something I like.

I havent weighed the trailer but its pretty light. Its a 5x8 enclosed. I can pick up the tongue and move it when its loaded so Im guessing it cant weigh much more than 1000 lbs

An old Scout still isnt out of the question either.

There is a 1980 on ksl that I went and drove. I absolutely love it but he wants WAAAAAAAAAAAAY to much. Its worth about half of what he is asking

I know rotbox likes his honda CR-V. Those are cheap. Not super powerful, and no low-range for extreme stuff, but for a camping/dirt road vehicle, they're tough to beat. How many seats do you need to have in it?

I bought a Honda Passport a few years ago. Drove it around for a couple months and sold it for a profit.

It was kind of a fun rig and pulled the trailer ok ish

Cheston, PM me with your number, I am putting our black ZJ up for sale soon and it needs to go to someone who doesn't care what it looks like but will appreciate the fact that it has low miles for the year and a fairly new transmission in addition to all of the other work that has gone into it. I wouldn't hesitate to drive it across the country or even around the world at this point.

Wish I would have seen your post earlier!

Im pretty sure I found the new rig.

Its a 01 Grand Cherokee. It has the 4.0, a 2" puck lift, BFG MTs and thats about it.

I like the WJ body style a lot and that may be what sparked me the most on this one. Its also the right color. And the right price.

It does have a few issues but nothing major. Big items is a bad exhaust hanger, a loose shock, and a possible bad CV shaft. Just making a little noise when turning left.

I gave her a deposit last night and will go pick it up tonight. Unless something happens....I will post pics soon

Brought it home last night.
It drove on the freeway fine. The front tires make a little noise and they are worn a bit more than the rears so I might need an alignment. But it drove straight and solid.

I stopped and picked up my work trailer. Pulled it fine. I can feel it back there and Im not used to that but nothing weird.

It rides SOOOOO nice tho. Im used to a leaf spring lifted SuperDuty so this feels like a caddilac. So much so Im wondering if the shocks need replaced...lol

The 4.0 is not a powerhouse. But it runs. More than I can say for any of my other rigs right now. Still pulled the trailer fine

I will post some pics soon. Nothing special but so far Im happy. Even if it is a heep
