Looking for a manufacturing facility

Say I have a set of components that just received its patent pending status and I want to find a local company to partner with and manufacture the pieces, where would I look? Steel components, will need a plasma or laser table, some breaking will be necessary and some components will need to be turned and machined. Will likely start with around 1k units and go from there. Have prototypes already assembled and the cad files supporting them.

Anyone have any sources??

I do have a call in with Ballistic, waiting for them to fax back a non-compete clause. I would like to stay local, but they were my first thought.

Isn't Ballistic known for stealing others designs? They would be the last company I would contact. Great guys, but....

I'd just call your local machine shop. They have no interest in selling your invention, only you the parts.
Then if you can't weld/assemble them your self, find a local blacksmith. Your local blacksmith might also have the machine shop abilities, but at a blacksmith cost. So remember that....

My neighbor owns a shop that could probably take care of that-likely cheaper than most. PM me for his number if you want to get a quote from him.

why don't you post up detailed blueprints and pictures of the product so we can give you better advice... jk

seriously though, keeping it local is where it's at!

I am trying to keep this local. Was at Laser Concepts for a bit this afternoon and they may fit the bill.

Really need a place that can laser or plasma cut plate, cnc or manual brake the plate, and turn some small spacers and small threaded parts then assemble the pieces. Going to look some more tomorrow. Thanks for the ideas!!

Even though the patent is pending, someone can still use the design, so be careful. Are you trying to make Jeep parts? Already done your market research and questioned your target audience? PM me if you need any advice, I am finishing up my degree in Marketing and actually paid attention through most of it.

No offense, but if an almost finished marketing degree is the first credential you fall back upon when selling yourself as an accomplished and credible business consultant, then maybe you ought to let the guy (whom you know nothing about) make his own decisions.

One of my degrees says marketing on it too, and it's worth about as much as the paper it's printed on when it comes to working in this industry. I was almost finished before I figured that out, which is why I picked up a 2nd major to at least give me a sporting chance against the million other people that thought a degree in common sense sounded appealing.

Mike, good luck with your business. I have no constructive advice to offer in regards to manufacturing, but if you happen to be in search of capital I can tell you where not to start lol. Securing funding for a startup is next to impossible these days, but you probably have a leg up on me since the history of spending that I’ve always been jealous of leads me to believe that you have access to a sizeable amount of capital. So ya…build parts, make more money, go wheelin. Boo ya!

Unfortunately it is not my business. I just got the task of finding the means to mass produce the product so it can be dumped on the market. I really wish it was though, would definitely fuel my wheeling sickness and get my buggy building!!

I know a guy in Utah County that has a laser cutting business. He cut out a lot of bracket, tab, etc stuff for us. Nice work. Pm me if you want his number.

Laser Concepts did a bunch of work for me when I was building bumpers. Great work and awesome to work with, when you can get a hold of him. But that was over a year ago, maybe he is a little more responsive.

I second the vote for Summit Machine,

or check out Critical Laser in Lindon. they have done a bunch of stuff for my club and always willing to help out.
