The 2023 lost trails guide book is out. These are trails that are under used and need to be visited more often to stay open

I can tell you that what Ben says in that post is 100% true. I worked with him as a representative of the Sage Riders on the travel plan that was just completed east of hwy 24. The rehabilitation from lack of use was a big argument that SUWA was making and they won on some of them. The problem is they claim that on a lot of stuff that still has a very visible route but often the BLM makes decisions from the office and not on the ground.

I am glad to see this book being put out.

I have read through quite a bit of the book so far. It has very basic instructions, and is heavily directed through GPS coordinates. I’m slightly discouraged that they didn’t put any kind of maps in with the trails. I think something more similar to the Moab trails book would have been way awesome.
In order to effectively use the book you also need a good map of each area, and be familiar with using GPS. Which I am not.
So I guess I have some learning to do

I would absolutely recommend Gaia for GPS and maps.

There is still room in my next class... I might be able to help you out.

At first I was disappointed by the lack of maps, but I'm actually ok with it. It'll force folks to do a little research before hand to find the trails and hopefully keeps the lazy, uninterested out of these areas.

Plus, I imagine licensing maps for publication would add significant cost and would add many more pages/pictures to the book.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll have to brush up on GPS use as well. Should make for a good time teaching my kids to use one.
