If done right that sort of cross member can work well but nothing beats a solid sheet of flat steal under your truck, protecting and serving as a crossmember. If you have the ability, cut your floor out, raise your drivtrain, buy trail gears bomb proof tcase mount and mount it all to a flat price of 5/16 or 3/8 in sheet metal. Or if you aren't into all the fab just buy a bud built or a marlin skid plate and be done.

Yes, you will be able to keep your back seat.you just have to cut out your tunnel between your two front seats and raise it up. You will also need to cut out and replace the cross brace in your frame behind the tcase. Then get a sheet of steal, measure a good skid plate, drill holes to mount your tcase, drill holes to mount to the frame, bolt it together and your good

Your best bet is a fuel cell, like chevycrew said, behind your back seat, it kinda punes your cargo space but works better for a rock crawler. I've always thought it would be neat to find a cell that fit in-between the frame rails in the very back like an fj60...

Also You don't necessarily need a fuel cell, you can just remount your tank, I know several people doing that with good results but I've always just ran a cell

I used to run a s10 blazer tank between the framerails in the rear, but when I moved the rear axle back it went to the bed....

The S10 tank is even angled on the corner to clear the factory shock mount on the 84-89 4runner.

im not to worried about cargo. i have none in the back anyways. but would be nice to do.
YROC: i have looked into just having my dad help me fab one of those up for me. think those would be slick and cheap to make
