If you grind alot in the same room as your welder it gets caked up pretty fast. we used to use them at my old work and we eventually went back to the regular ground clamp

I picked up one for my truck at my old work, doing structural steel and ornamental iron. I also switched back to the regular clamp, the magnetic type didn't give us a good consistent ground, the idea is good, but as long as you got a good clamp, it will do better.

The quality of the ground connection is pretty reliant on it's pressure into the work. Magnets don't offer much, and they're not really useful at all in many situations.
