Dig into it, I need to replace the whole axle....It appears that when it bound up the carrier oblonged the bearing caps. It also seems to have spread the case as there was no preload on the carrier. Even though I did not own the truck at the time, I was around when the ARB was installed. It had preload then....

Being my tow rig, I just don't want to take the chance.

Most of 'em have a little screw-in retainer, or a retainer pin held in with a bolt. Assuming that one's the same, if the screw comes loose/out then it allows the retainer to fall out, which in turn lets the center pin slide out and FUBAR stuff.

I have not pulled the case cap off the ARB yet, but I can see the broken pin. In this carrier it appears there is a pin insert under the non-rg side cap and retained by that cap.

Bummer Marc, sorry to hear about the problems. Is that the same axle that I have in my 01?

It's really similar. Yours will be a 10.5" rather than his 10.25". Basically the same housing and carrier, slightly larger gears. (and disc brakes)

Just wondering if that ARB would fit mine, if I bought all the new parts for it.

Yes it will....I'll make you a he!! of a deal:p Want the front one too....I think I am done with ARB for good. Never been a fan, but thought I'd keep the 50 to build into a rear for the libby, now I am not too sure....

So Carl when Tera builds and axle do you guys install the gears and locker? If so that means mine are installed correctly right?

Usually, but not always....sometimes the customer who orders the axle wants it empty and they'll do their own setup.

I'm sure Milner's gears were set up just fine, they've been in there for quite a while with no issues. (I'm thinking it's gotta be at least 6 years-ish....) This is just one of those freak things that can happen sometimes.

It's been a while, but I think you're right. It's a solid roll pin and there should be three? of them... One in each small one and then one in the large one. It goes all the way through the pin and into the center of the case. I wonder if that pin busted in half or fell out? My guess is broke in half? Because how could it fall out if the end (cylindar) cap is still in place?

I've replaced main parts like that and it wasn't all that expensive - cheaper than buying a new one anyway... I want to say the two parts that hold the ring gear - flange cap and diff case were something like $180? The flange cap was in stock up here in Seattle, but the diff case had to be made and came from Australia - 10 days'ish?

As for the differences between 10.25 and 10.5, I'm pretty sure all of the differences in the diff are in the pinion - I think it's the inner pinion bearing is the only thing different. So if you put 10.25 gears in a 10.5 housing, you use the 10.25 master install kit with the 10.5 inner pinion bearing. But point being I know the ARB is the same for both.

As for short or long pinion, you can run the long pinion gears (in a short housing) and just replace the yoke. I believe 93 was the first year for the long yoke.

I forgot about this while I was on vacation...

Had I seen you earlier in the cross walk, you would have gotten it that day (it's still sitting in the console of my Jeep).

If you need a truck to snag a new axle, mine is just sitting here and you're welcome to it (the truck, not the axle). :D

You get your cookie when I get my reamer back:p

Haven't dropped the carrier yet....Keeley took too short of a nap.
