SUPER CHEESY
Come in my house tie up my wife and kid, force me to go around at gunpoint collecting valuables, you better keep your eyes on me and a TIGHT grip in that gun!

I wish this was the outcome more often with these sort of situations.
I'm glad that the bad guy lost on this one!
Good job homeowner!

Its to bad that only really now that this is happening. Meaning vast comments about self defense/vs personal and property rights.

Maybe its the focus from the gentleman down in Texas that has brought this to the surface, or to just my attention.

Actually maybe it is just me realizing for the first time that this is a possibility that any one of us might face one day.

I would only hope that if I am ever faced with something similar, that I will act logically.

I am sure that there are times in these situations that one might "go" for the gun and only cause more problems. I am sure that there might be zero chances for going for the gun, all one can wish for is the best. And of course there might be that possibly that a weapon of sorts will make a positive out come to a situation such as this. All I wish for is that the people that the offenses are being committed to act rationally for their best interest. In other words, think before grabbing the gun.

Hope that makes sense. I think congrats the west valley man and his family for making it out of a nasty situation physically ok.

And for the record, for any prick that puts me/or my family in a similar situation, they best watch out. Because if the opportunity is there, I will take it and the outcome will not be pretty.

rant off.

oh and for the record, one might pick up the book called deep survival. It talks about actions and thought pattern that lead to either survival or lack of.

This story rocks! They are all safe and this guy is a hero to his family! It's unfortunate that he wasn't able to shoot the others.

All of these related articles have brough to my attention that my weapons are too out of the way, too far away from the ammo, etc. I want the kids safe, but want a gun handy.

Where is the best place to have a pistol/shotgun at the ready and safe from the kids. (keep in mind my kids are very small but know how to shoot guns and have their own rifles.)

I am glad everything worked out here! The guy is a hero... But it is so scary how this can happen to anyone!

don't they have lock boxes that require your fingerprint?

I would bet they do, biometric security is getting cheaper... More and more laptops are available with the fingerprint scanners.

There is usually a gun with in reach and one in the barrel when I'm home but I don't have little ones running around so its a bit easier.Glad to see the thieve got what was coming to him .The victim was just lucky he got the gun away from one of them. This story could have gone the other way very easily .

When I left NY, one of the big reasons was the rise in home invasions. It would kill me to have to go through one of the ones that happened there: 2 guys break in, tie the family up, then rape the daughter and kill her, then the mom... and then they shot the son, and left the dad.

No way, no how. Since then I've tried to attain some level of expertise in self-defense and gun handling. Hopefully I'll never have to use it. It makes me nuts thinking about someone in my house messing with my kids or my wife.

:eek::mad:

I think if that were to happen to me I would go vgilante! I wouldn't have anything left to live for after that deep of damage I can't think of what would motivate someone to do that kind of crap... So much hate. :(

The more this happens, The less it will happen.
This absolutly could have gone either way, but the guys family was in serious danger, so I think he had that as the advantage.
Honestly, I really don't care if someone burglerized my home, but don't do it when the family is there.:mad2:
As for as guns in the house, I'm locked & loaded with multiple weapons, with a two year old.
There's now way she can access any of them.
50 years ago I'm not sure how many gun safes were around, but kids weren't
shooting themselves. Seems like old fashioned personal responsabillity.
As soon as my child can even come close to holding the wieght of a weapon she'll be taught how to( or how not to ) use one.

glad things turned out better for them and not the intruders. when i lived in midland i had somebody break in my apartment. the girl i was dateing was already asleep and i was gettin ready to (insomnia) when i heard somebody messin with my outside door. grabbed my shotgun, heard the person moving around in the living room area (other side of the door) and cocked the shotgun. next thing i hear as i'm reachin for the doorknob is "oh SH!T!!!" and footsteps takin off down the stairs outside.
