I'm not saying I don't have a readily accessible gun, or two or five, around, but jumping up in the middle of the night and being on point right off the bat is difficult. Shooting pistols in the dark with bleary eyes is difficult. Not missing, and sending round into your kids' rooms is difficult.

Maybe it's Pirate that's made me tire of the whole "DUDE! I would have totally blasted them in the face!" attitude that comes out in these kinds of threads.

and to be clear: I am not singling anyone out, if it seems that way. You fight like you train.

who me? i usually go to bed around 2-3am and the breakin was around midnight or 1am. i didnt shoot, all i did was **** the shotgun while i was on the other side of the door. universal language of a pump action shotgun getting cocked to fire sends a clear message.

All of these related articles have brough to my attention that my weapons are too out of the way, too far away from the ammo, etc. I want the kids safe, but want a gun handy.

Where is the best place to have a pistol/shotgun at the ready and safe from the kids. (keep in mind my kids are very small but know how to shoot guns and have their own rifles.)

Loaded and next to the bed when i got to sleep unloaded and locked up when i wake up

This story rocks! They are all safe and this guy is a hero to his family! It's unfortunate that he wasn't able to shoot the others.

Get your concealed carry permit and keep your gun on you then you always know where it is and safe from the kids.
