I got a metal sliver stuck in my eye again.... Shut me down for a few days and about $500 (thanks Obamacare for F*cking up my insurance).

Alex had some coils that work pretty well. I need to finish up a couple items (upper coil retainers/bumpstops, shock mounts and final weld the uppers---I'm still going to clearance the frame at the tie rod/drag link area and the trackbar---It's only 1.5" or so but that could be pretty important 1.5" {so I've heard}). It's actually pretty mobile if I had anything setup in the rear still.

That doesn't sound so fun.

Anything set up in the rear...does that mean you took your rear suspension apart?

I got to get the drilled eye thing again. That sucks (I have some pretty nice safety glasses (at least I thought)) and I don't want to do that again.

I need to put my re-re-redone XJ springs back in there. Have some temporary old units in there now.

I'd be done but have had some 11-12 hour days this week and haven't gotten to the garage when I get home. I should have some time tomorrow night and the early part of Sat. to button things up a bit. Not sure if the frame clearancing will be complete on Sat. but I should be pretty mobile and might even have shocks on? (likely heavy tacked until I can stretch it out a little?)

After getting slivers removed a few times in the last year or so I bought a full face shield off Amazon for like $15. It's a Hobart one and it's one of my favorite "tools" now. I had a face shield back in the day that would fog up and it was miserable but this thing is champ and I've used the crap out of it already. Get one!

I'll have to try another one of those, I guess. My last one wouldn't stay on my chrome head very well ;)

The whole eye thing is why I always have safety's and why I bought a face shield. No more sliced eyeball action for me. If you wanna cycle the suspension I've got the front loader.

Well, it made it out of the garage. I need to finish up the shock mounts (I kind of want to make those adjustable also?) and final weld a few things. I still need to notch the frame in a couple spots. I do have 5" of up travel at this ride height.

My wife's car is in the garage now. Happy wife, happy life

Well, I found a rock after tacking the shocks mounts on. Thing drives pretty nice. (Hopefully the wife doesn't see these pictures?)

Very nice, plus that rock is huge. :p

What coils did you end up using?

Biggest rock I could find in the 'hood :D It's some crappy shale as well and didn't care much for my portly Jeep to be perched on it.

Coils are a lift spring for a TJ/XJ/ZJ. Supplier wasn't exactly sure but thought they were a Skyjacker 3.5" for a TJ?

Mbryson, this is unrelated to what you have been doing but, I hope you can shed some light on this. I know you installed a MB grille on the jeep but, did you ever look at installing the MB hood and front fenders onto your rig? I am curious if the MB, or other WWII jeep body parts, would mate up to the jeep tub. Say a CJ8 tub to other WWII jeep front end.

Thank you in advance.

Thats exactly what I wanted to do but the CJ tub's cowl dimensions are quite a bit different than the MB/GPW. You'll basically need to match a GPW/MB hood to the CJ cowl or take a CJ/YJ type good and match it to the grille. The YJ hood seemed to work better for me than anything else I tried. I had to do it over again, I would peel the skin off a YJ hood narrow the YJ could inner structure, and then re-skin the YJ hood. I believe that would make for a cleaner finished product. I hope to have that done for jeep safari this year

Ah, okay. That makes sense. I did run across a company named aquala that makes stretched body tubs. But, I thought you would have a better and cheaper solution to this issue.
