It's still here. (drove it to work today---between it and the Lincoln, they're the most reliable cars I have :D ) Oil pressure dealio freaked out as I was getting on the freeway today. Shut the car down to 45 mph....not exactly comfortable when you're in the middle of a merge at 7 am.... Waiting to hear when I'll have a Jeep again.
I thought it sold? Man I'm losing it I guess.

The last Jeep I bought new from the dealer was in the shop 21 times in two years for warranty work. I was so happy when the wife totaled it. I had suspension, egr, transmission, t-case and over heating issues. Sometimes you just get a lemon or bad egg. Hope you get it figured out. Nothing worse than an unreliable off-road vehicle.

I've had awesome luck with the Jeeps we've owned. We've got about 400k miles on our Jeeps (ZJ and XJ) and we're hoping for similar results with this one.

More like 110.... ;) Sure doesn't feel like it's a soccer mom's ride anymore.

(We're headed to Moab the first weekend in Dec, if you feel like doin some road trippin)

Moab sounds good.... Dec. is interesting with family parties and such.

why is this in the general discussion instead of the tech section? It makes it hard to find:p

So another update: Just had a CEL on Friday as I got to work. Dropped off at the dealer (new service writer now, Andy) and he called me at 1 pm. Left bank head is bad... I should get it back by late next week. We'll see how it acts for a few months after the head replacement and decide what to do with it.

A quick C&P from a Pentastar site:

In June 2012, dealers reported that some engines had premature cylinder head failures, usually on cylinder 2. The problem seems rare considering the number of these engines produced, and nobody was stranded by the problem, which made itself known through the “check engine” light. Customers were generally given loaner cars while the issue was being resolved, though in some cases there was a considerable delay as Chrysler engineers sought root causes (which include “bad gas”) and an effective cure. A fix (hardened valve guides and seats) was engineered and entered production in June, and by mid-July, the backlog of replacement heads was being addressed, and all new heads were of the new design.

Most vehicles with this problem appear to be Jeep Wranglers, and a service bulletin was issued for Wranglers built before January 24, 2012 (MDH 0124XX) seems to be designed to prevent “false positive” check-engine lights.

Any model year 2013 and newer car or Jeep or truck should have the new heads. A “Julian” build date of 2062 (the 206th day of 2012) stamped on the cylinder head shows that it is one of the newer types. The part numbers of the new heads are RL141353AC or higher (left side) and RL141352AD (right side).

Got the Jeep back after three days (fairly impressive for the amount of work involved?). Been driving it since last Thursday. All seems well so far. I hope to just service this thing from here on out. :D

Oh, I need to get my front bumper and winch on there (KSL stuff)

I had the head on my 2012 replaced last fall. Im not sure it performs any better but it doesnt sound like a sewing machine when it idles in the driveway anymore.

It seems pretty good since the repair. I have added some 37" tires (measuring out at 36"). The performance is about right but the Toyos are HEAVY beasts and you can feel it in the brakes. I am getting about 16 mpg on the first tank since the head fix and tire add. That's about 2 mpg more than the 35" tires (that are 33.5").

I snagged a front bumper a few weeks ago off RME and a Warn 9.5Ti winch off of KSL a couple weeks ago. I'll try to get those on tomorrow. Still want a spare tire solution and possibly a rear bumper. Hoping that ices the "mods" (all bolt-on at this point) for this car for quite some time. Well, there's the weld on thingys I want to add to the Rubicon sliders. Who wants to bend those up for me? I have a new service writer at LHM now... don't know his name yet but I hope we don't get to used to each other.

Marc, stop by and check out mine. I hate fumbling with the swing aways, so I did a grocerery getter friendly one that's worked well for a couple years now. Best of all, cheap (<$50) and easy to build.

Im pretty happy with mine. Its been a bolt on jobber as well. 2.5" AEV kit, Synergy front lowers track bar and steering shaft brace, Teraflex tire carrier and 35" MTR/Ks on Fuel Trophy wheels. I put the trucklites in today and Im going with 4.56 gears/sleeves/c braces next week. Except for long highway runs Ive been reasonably happy with the 3.21s.
