I am doing a MC2100 swap on my '88 YJ and I am wondering what anyone else has done with the 2 large hoses that used to be connected to the bottom of the original air cleaner? My manual says they are part of the "Pulse Air System". I have atttached a picture to clarify.   :ugh:

Do they just go to the charcol canister? If so, you should be able to just plug them. You could plumb them into the new air cleaner, but I wouldn't bother....

No, according to the manual they run down to the catalytic converter and help reduce emissions.

For my tech donation to RME I figure rather than working I would do some web reading for you. Looks like the pulse air system will not change performance if you have it or not. Some guys will just disable it (at the expense of more emissions), others will keep it and stay smog legal. Since you are trying to keep it smog legal I think you just need to filter them.

Says to just filter them

This guy just plugged them, but I am sure this will technically make you not pass emissions, and one other read said that it will kill your catalic converter faster

Read the last paragraph

This guy just used two more of those chrome air beathers, so it all works

doing a nutter will disable the pulse system (read second paragraph)

I just plugged them then tucked mine behind the engine block back under the firewall. the emmission guy didnt even give it a second look. And my jeep passed fine.
