Mechanical vs. electric fans

funny cause I used the same t-stat and the first time I had it out I over heated because the t-stat failed...I then took the t-stat out and just wired it up to a dash switch, worked great after that.

Did you just use a 3 way toggle switch; low - off - high type thing?

I just went to a single speed as well. It worked great on low untill it got really hot outside. If you do want to use a thermostat (allows multiple speeds), get a solid state unit instead of the bymetal mechanical type. The solidstate will cost more but I've heard that they are more reliable.

I figure having a low and high would be best since when I wheel it can be 40-115 outside. So why run high if I don't need it, and why be stuck with low if it's really hot!

Go to the flex-a-lite web site. They have a variable speed controller Part# 31165-VSC that is solid state. I've been told that this controller doesn't have the problems that the mechanical thermostat has.
