Nope, but let me know how it goes. Last I checked, the nickel MIG wire was ridicu-expensive.

TopTruckTom used some on his old D60/70 axles. The wire was ridicu-expensive, but he got it as a freebie from some work his dad did.

Worked pretty good. He also packed everything in sand for a day or so. Real slow cool-down.

I always just pre heat and cover with a welding blanket to slow the cool down to avoid cracks, so far so good:D

14 bolt housings aren't as nice to work with (in reference to welding) as Dana stuff though. Shawn's job is harder than yours. ;)

Shawn is harder than Sissypants. It makes sense that anything he did would be harder than Keeeeeeel's version of it.

Yeah, even that.

The more I read the more this sux. I don't have a stick welder to do it right so I was looking at wire. Looks like I may need a different kind of gas also.

Looks like I'm glad I have dana stuff, I would probably just borrow an ARC. Besides Shawn is older then me so technically everything is harder for him to do then me. Oh yeah and Fawk you Tacoma-_-

So, not to get too technical... what makes the 14 Bolt center section a lot different than most dana sections? What's the metallurgy behind it?

Thanks Marc,

So I have never used a stick welder before. In school many moons ago... If I borrow one, should I just buy some cheep rod and practice before I give it a go? Is it that hard? I can practice on my old 14 bolt I just hate to burn through some expensive rod trying.

Where do you get stick from? Is this something I can get at Airgas?.

Thanks,

Probably a good idea to practice a little....I suck at stick welding....Any welding supply, or home depot will have rod to practice with, nickle rod will have to come from the welding supply.

I want to echo Herzogs question, because I was convinced you could weld right to them...I just cannot find my referance material for that right now.

I paid a guy to weld mine up so I didn't have to mess with it - even though I have a stick machine and some 7018... Just food for thought :D
