Mig Nickel Wire

UNSTUCK

But stuck more often.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but you still do the same procedure with a stick as you would with MIG right? Preheat, weld, preheat, weld, slow cool. I've never welded on a 14 bolt, but plan to soon. I used a stick with Nickel rod and preheat to turn the inner C's on my D44. That worked out very well.

Stick is not hard until you have to run it vertical up while you yourself are standing on your head without a very good view because your helmet wont fit where you need it to. Flat on a bench is one thing, strait up in the real world is what makes a welder a welder.

whoa... I just laid a few easy beads and it was easier than I thought it was going to be. Last time I tried the stick it kept getting stuck....

I'm just excited to learn something new.

Learning with a stick was a great start for me. On my old service truck I had a Ranger 9. I did mostly repair welding on heavy equipment. I used mostly 7018, but also a lot with the different 6xxx's. I took a bunch of one on one classes from Phonix Welding, paid for by me employer, which was nice.
Now all I do is mig welding on jeeps and stuff. If you can be steady with a stick welder you can do very well with a mig. I'm very happy that I got real good with the stick. I didn't think it was hard, but I had never known anything different. Now I just need to learn tig. Any teacher out here?
