I am thinking about picking up eksjae's commando but lack a few things for putting it all together (namely time, space, tools and know how :rofl: )

In other words, would be looking to hire out the job. Any shops out there interested and want to give me a ball park price on it? If you jump over to his ad you can get an idea of what we are getting into.

Will also need interior and body work as well for those in that area.

let me know!

What exactly is going to be needed to be done on it?

Basically everything? The engine and tranny need to be put in, along with the rewiring etc that goes along with a non-stock engine. Would probably make sense to re-wire everything while at it. Axles and suspension are in. When I looked at it, it was hard to see how far from drivable the interior is, as some parts are stored in it. Is missing rear side windows. Body is fairly straight with some rust, but not bad for its age. Obviously the cosmetics can wait.

Sound about right eskjae?

the front seats need to be bolted in and you need to find a back seat if you want one. the stock wiring harness is there but sitting on the drivers seat. it shouldnt be that hard to rewire the whole thing, as there is not much to a 67 commando.

if you are not going to do the work yourself, be ready to spend a lot of money.

I think that every jeep is a "project" if I had to pay for all of my repairs it would be the most expensive car anyone could own. But if you make it YOUR project, it will take some time, and some patience and some redoing after you did it wrong the first time. If you are willing to put that effort into what he has it looks like there is some good potential there. If you are not willing to put the effort into it you will be poor very quickly. That thing is a hobby just waiting to happen.

Do you not have time to work on it or dont know how to do it?

Some of both. Used to do a lot of work on my own. In high school drove a '48 chevy p/u street rod, but it came to me built, so I mostly made repairs. Honestly would be at a bit of a loss as to where to start. Time, tools and room are the biggest limitations.

I agree that it could easily become too expenesive-thus why I have not commited yet- but I like the potential.

You should try the repairs yourself ... it's really not all that hard. And if you have a good group of friends that really know what they are doing then you can do weekend BBQ/Repair parties.

I'd agree that if you pay to have the whole thing done it's going to cost bookoo bucks to have done :)

Personally, if You have to out source most of this project, maybe you would be better off buying one that is in need of less work.

to give you an idea, it was cheaper for me to have Rocklogic build my buggy then it was to have them to finish my Jeep. My Jeep basically needed driveline mounted, caged, interior stuff (seats, etc), etc. Not a ton of work but when you are FORCED to work around things it can be a PITA and a bunch more work. I agree with others, if you dont know how to do it then I would start off with something a little less involved.

Unfortunately I may find that is true- but too sad indeed (if only I could find the cash for a special built 5 seat (have 3 kids) buggy :p )

I have a neighbor who may be willing to help take it on- need to get over with him to look the project over.
