I have swapped the engine, tranny, and t-case out of a 98 XJ into my 89 MJ. The old t-case was vacuum disconnect, so the front axle won't work with the XJ t-case. Is there a way to find out the gearing in the rear D44 axle? I have the front D30 from the XJ, with 3.55 gears, and I'm just wondering what the MJ gears are and if I could just swap the front axle in. The MJ is an 89, originally was a 5 speed peugot tranny. Thanks

pull the cover and count the teeth to be sure, or you could check for the id tag if it has one, pull the cover to be sure though

Dana axles are supposed to have the ratio stamped on the ring gear as well... but I can't remember if it's in plain English or in code.

it'll be stamped on the ring gear you'll have to wipe off the goo, it'll be something like 13:45 you just have to do the division.
