Chris and I met up with Meat, Timpanogos and Notajeep this morning to run these... Since we had snow last night, we were afraid of starting at the beginning of GS, so we decided to do RN and then head over to the crack and out.
On the way to the trail head, Notajeep stopped and had problems with a hub - studs had pulled out, so he three wheeled for a bit and jumped in the back of the truck to watch us at RN.
Well, Rusty Nail was covered in snow. While we weren't sure how we would get past the first part, Meat was sure we weren't getting past the big rock drop off on to the ledge towards the end. So we bagged it and turned around.
Driving in Meat's rig stopped running, and we couldn't get it opertional. About the time we were goign to give up and pull it out, Meat found a kinked fuel line - problem solved.
We continued on to the crack, and back out.
Chris tried following us up an obstacle and noticed that after attempting it, his rear tire was rubbing. Looking with a flash light (becuase it was dark, and yes, Meat has no headlights), he found nothing wrong. After getting back to the staging area, he looked closer with ideas Meat and I were giving him. I then noticed that one shackle was on more of an angle than the other - busted leaf spring!
After dragging Meat's rig back to the hotel, dropping it off, and taking the trailer back and getting Chris's XJ, I noticed Steve (owner of the Outpost) was at the office, so I stopped in and bought a set of old used springs for $30! Chris is back in business!! Of course nobody knows how good these springs are, but at least they will get Chris back home (SLC) if nothing else.
Yes, this time there are pictures. I took a few, but Timpanogos looked to be busy the whole time with the camera. So hopefully he will post some up
